From the owner

Periwinkle Beach House is situated in Lower Largo, Fife. Periwinkle is a beautifully renovated house in an unparalleled position on the water. So much so that at high tide it is like being on the bridge of your own ship. Periwinkle stands in it’s own grounds and has direct private access to the beach, a spacious patio with outside seating with built in BBQ, private off road parking for three / four cars and to complete the picture a secret and very private walled garden (it is rumoured that fairies live here).

Periwinkle inside is just as impressive, newly fitted kitchen, open plan dining area and lounge, (the lounge includes a double bed sofa) with sliding doors onto the patio. Upstairs there is a family bathroom (with bath and shower above), a double bedroom (bed can be made up as super king size or two singles) and a master bedroom (bed can be made up as super king size or two singles) overlooking the sea with a luxury bathroom en-suite boasting an enormous deluge shower and luxury fluffy bathrobes.

Periwinkle has full central heating and an open log burning fire for those chilly evenings. There are smart TV’s in both the bedrooms and the lounge, the TV in the lounge also offers Sky Sports and Sky Cinema. Periwinkle has free wifi (high speed and very reliable) and for your extra security has a safe for valuables and an alarm system. Bed linen and towels, even beach towels are included in your rental as well as other luxury extras designed to make our guests feel very special – after all you are staying in a very special house. On request, we can also cater for guest with an allergy to natural fibres by using micro fibre bedding on all beds.

Periwinkle is situated in Largo Bay and from dawn to dusk this south facing property can be bathed in sunshine. This part of Fife’s coast is referred to as the Scottish Riviera and although some way from being sub-tropical has far less rainfall than in the west of the country. Lower Largo is one of the historical fishing villages that make up the East Neuk of Fife and for centuries was known for it’s catches of Haddock where net making flourished and the fisherwomen were noted for their knitting. However, Lower Largo’s main claim to fame is its connection to Robinson Crusoe, it is the birthplace of Alexander Selkirk (B.1676) who was the inspiration for Daniel Defoe’s story. A statue of Robinson Crusoe, looking out to sea has stood at the site of Selkirk’s home since 1885.

There are few districts in Scotland that present a greater number of attractions to visitors than that which stretches along the north shore of the Forth from Leven to St Andrews. The bracing sea breezes, the clear blue waves, the flat sandy beaches, the wild and precipitous cliffs, the remarkable caves, the many golf links and courses, the fine old churches, the quaint old towns, the ruined castles, the romantic traditions, the beautiful landscapes, the magnificent views. The pleasant drives, walks and rides may all be enjoyed in the quiet and friendly corner of Scotland known as the East Neuk of Fife.
