How to get there
The route from the Channel Tunnel is 550 miles, with only one mile not motorway or dual carriageway - and half of that mile is in Calais!
Driving time is reliably 7.5 hours - plus rest stops unless the weather is very bad. The route does not go near Paris, and in fact the only major towns it skirts are Reims and Geneva, so the traffic is always very light.
For arrival by air, Geneva is very well connected. There are a large number of private transfer companies, and a timed door-to-door transfer is 30-35 Euros each way. Plenty of car hire, and driving time is about an hour.
Rail is possible, but local connections are not easy. Take a TGV to Geneva Central and a local train to the airport. If someone can meet you by car go to Bellegarde (one stop before Geneva) as this will be quicker.

Getting around
The local bus service is very good during the day. If you want to be out in the evening, or travel outside the valley, a car is useful. There is a train service that joins the French main line at Le Fayet, and the Swiss at Martigny. Chamonix and Les Houches have excellent car parking.
