From Bangkok you can fly to Trat. This is a beautiful small airport with an elephant topiary lined runway and open top trams picking you up from your plane. There are many minibuses/Taxi's waiting to greet each flight and take you via ferry to the island. Alternatively, you can take a bus, minibus or taxi to the island, via the ferry. To explore the island fully and for ease of getting around, you need to have some form of transportation; either hire a car or scooter. There are local buses but this is Thailand and they don't have a timetable!!
