How to get there
Many British and most European airports fly direct to Heraklion, the most convenient airport to fly to.
There are a good range of budget, scheduled and chartered flights including: easyjet, jet2, olympic-airways, British Airways, Thomson and Thomas Cook who all fly direct from the UK to Heraklion.
We find that travelsupermarket show a good range of flights from the above airlines.
Whilst the airport of Sitia is the closest airport, this has not been opened for international travel as yet.
As for car hire, we usually find Motor Plan and Just Rental Centre are very good value, they are at the airport and someone will meet you, it saves having to que for along time with everyone else to get your car, please ask if you would like their website information.

Getting around
Ideally you will need a hire car to get from the airport to the apartment and to visit various sites. The village of Makrigialos is easy enough to walk to (about a 20 minute walk to the start and there are plenty of shops in the area. If you do not want to hire a car, then you can arrange a transfer to and from the airport and use local busses to get around.
