How to get there
The nearest airport to St Gilgen is Salzburg, with Vienna Linz and Munich within an easy commute. All the airports are linked to the Salzkammergut by a good road network. Low cost flights to Austria are available all year from several operators, from several British airports. All Austrian and German airports have car hire facilities. A shuttle bus operates between Salzburg airport and the main bus and train station. A bus service can transport you from Salzburg to St Gilgen, [use route number 150], and of course taxis are an option (but can be expensive in Austria). Driving to St Gilgen from the UK is easy, and via major roads; we make the journey regularly from Newcastle or Harwich. Calais, Dunkirk, Zeebrugge, Rotterdam and Amsterdam ports are around 10 hours drive to St Gilgen mainly by motorway. Getting around
The bus line 150 runs from Salzburg to Bad Ischl, with St Gilgen being mid-way on the route. With stops at every village between, the 150 opens the Salzkammergut to all. The boat service on the Wolfgangsee transports you to all the tourist stops on the lake, St Wolfgang, Strobl, Furberg and others. You can hire a car at any airport, or for the energetic, you can hire a bicycle at the shop located on the ground floor of the apartment building.
