How to get there
Getting from Heraklion airport is an easy 75 -90 minute run along the coast. The road has/ is being upgraded all the time. The road from the main road to the village is tarred so you dont need a 4 wheel drive. There are many care hire companies at Heraklion airport but seach Just Rentals Heraklion Airport are in our view out in front - they include 2 drivers and waiver insurance and the cars are all pretty new.
Please be aware if you fly into Chania its a 3.5 hour drive and you might be better to do a B&B in Chania if your flight return is early.

Getting around
I was hesitant to tick Car Recommended. I really think it would be hard going not to have one but it can be done with busses and taxis.There is a bar and two Tavernas within staggering so no need to drive to eat out! With a car the village of Pachia Ammos is a short drive with small shops beach and Tavernas. From here you have access to explore the north coast West to Agios Nikolaos and East to Mochlos and Sitea. As we are in the narrowest part of Crete it is 15 minutes drive to the the major South Coast town of Lerapetra with Supmarkets shops market and nightlife, boat to Krissi Island west to Mirtos and East to the South Coast beaches.
