How to get there
The property, in L'Orbrie village, 3km north of Fontenay le Comte, is about 1 hour drive away from both Nantes and La Rochelle international airports, both of which run budget flights to and from the UK.The closest ferry port for connection to the UK is St Malo, about 3.5 hours drive, but not much further are Caen, Cherbourg and Le Havre, all served by Brittany Ferries. Getting around
Bikes are perfect for many local sights including Mervent forest, Vouvant, Mervent village, and many local cycle paths. (There are some interesting hills in places though!). Electric bikes can be hired locally if you don't have your own. Cycling is also the best way to see the Ile de Ré if you take a day trip over there, drive your bikes to the La Rochelle side of the bridge and cycle over for free. Or you can hire bikes on the island. Cars are very useful for the less energetic, or further away sights, and parking is free in the main town Fontenay and in most other local villages.
