How to get there
Join the highway with direction to Rethymno. Drive till the exit of Atsipopoulo. There you will turn right (if you are coming from Chania airport) or left (if you are coming from Heraklion airprt). You will pass the following villages; Atsipopoulo, Prines & Gonia. Afterwards, turn right with direction to Fratzeskiana Metochia. Continue driving and Kato Valsamonero is the next village. The villa Balsam is located 250m before the entrance of the village. You will see the villa on your right hand!

Getting around
The history of the village Kato Valsamoneron is a small traditional village of 200 inhabitants who work mainly with agriculture and stockbreeding. The name of the village (Valsamo-nero),according to the tradition,is due to the very good quality water of its sources, that has pleasant and therapeutic impact. Balsam is an aromatic cretan plant with therapeutic and soothing effect. The village exists since the byzantine era. In the village, there are various buildings of the byzantine and Venetian era. During the Turkish occupation the village was inhabited by turks wile during the beginning of the 20th cectury it was inhabited by Cretans from Sfakia, Asi Gonia and Roumbado areas.
