How to get there

From the Kona airport, travel approximately 27 miles south on Highway 11. You'll pass through several small towns. Before Captain Cook there is a traffic light, so turn left to stay on the highway. Just after the 104 mile marker, watch for a sign on your right directing you to Puuhonua O Honaunau, and then a junction sign for Hwy 160. Turn right onto Hwy 160 (the Honaunau Post Office is on your right). Immediately past the green 1 Mile marker, turn right into the driveway. There is a black mailbox that reads 84-5056, a tall blue flag, and a yellow turnoff sign for Painted Church Road is on the far side of the driveway.

Getting around

On the Big Island, you will need a car to get around. The island is big (larger than all of the other islands put together), so to see the most amazing sights, you will need to drive. You might consider splitting your accommodation to the Kona side and the Hilo side (or Volcano) to minimize driving time. Key sights are the many beaches and snorkeling areas, historic and cultural sites, the volcano, botanical gardens, and the incredible beauty of the the island.
