How to get there

Gozo is the middle sized island of the Maltese archipelago and depends on Malta for all its tourism connections. Getting here requires either flying in or ferrying over to Malta and then boarding the ferry to Gozo. It may sound a bit complicated but actually its simple and really enjoyable !

Getting to Malta:

Several airlines operate regular flights to / from Malta including also Malta's own national carrier Airmalta and several low cost airlines as well. A very modern and fast catamaran service operates daily to / from Sicily , whilst other sea connections are on a regular schedule with several Mediterranean ports.

Getting to Gozo from Malta:

The only way to get to Gozo at present is by ferry from Cirkewwa which is the furthest northern point of Malta. This ferry time is just a 25 minute trip and is operated by Gozo Channel Co. Ltd. Passenger and vehicle service is provided all year round including Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays together with a night service throughout the year. Trips run every 45 minutes in peak times and less frequent at night. An adult return ticket costs Euro4.65 , while a child (3 to 12 years) return ticket costs Euro1.15. Infants travel free. For more information about Gozo Channel, please go visit the gozo channel website .

Getting to Cirkewwa from the airport / sea port:

Bus from airport: There is a bus service linking the airport operated by Transport Malta. Journey time with the Airport Express to Cirkewwa, X1, is 55 minutes. The first bus from the airport leaves at 0535 and the last one departs at 22:45. An adult single ticket costs Euro2.20. Bus from Sea port: There is no direct bus so you will have to get a bus to Valletta ( No. 130 ) and then catch the bus to Cirkewwa ( No. 41 or 42 )

Shared Transfer: Various transfer operators offer shared transfer service starting from Euro 7 per head. Once you get to Cirkewwa, catch a ferry to Gozo Mgarr harbour and then you may either get bus No. 303 to Qala and ask the driver to drop you off in Republic Square with the statue of St Joseph statue in the middle of the roundabout behind the Qala parish church ( Bus Stop No. 1343 - Il Wieqfa ). Misrah Simar is just 200 mtrs from this square. Or else get a short Taxi ride from the harbour to Misrah Simar in Qala.

The easiest option is to pre-book individual Transfer of which there are two types at any time of day and night. :

Split Transfer: Pick up will be from the airport or seaport and you will be driven to Cirkewwa, You then go as foot passenger on the ferry and another car will pick you up from Mgarr ( Gozo ) to take you to the complex. The cost of this transfer is as follows :Euro 40 per car (max 4 persons)....Euro 51 per Mini Bus ( Max 8 persons ) ** Ferry Charges are NOT included.

Through Transfer : - The easiest and most convenient....Pick up will be done at Malta International Airport or Valletta seaport and transported by Taxi or Minivan and accompanied all the way to your destination in Gozo. Prices are as follows: 01 - 02 persons Euro 65, 03 - 04 persons Euro 67, 05 - 06 persons Euro 75, 07 - 10 persons Euro 80. ** Ferry Charges for the persons are NOT included )

Taxis are available 24 hours at Malta International Airport, Valletta seaport and at the Mgarr Ferry Terminal during the day (if arriving in Gozo at night it is best to pre-book your taxi). A pre-paid taxi ticket from the airport to Cirkewwa costs Euro 32 (max 4 persons) and can be purchased from the ticket booth inside the Welcome Hall on Arrivals.

Hired Car :If you choose to hire a car, pick up and drop off point can either be in Malta at the Airport or Valletta Seaport or at Mgarr Terminal In Gozo. Please remember that in Malta we drive on left just like the Brits !!!

Sightseeing in Gozo. Hiring a car is the easiest ( and most adventurous !! ) way of getting around however, the local public transport has recently been upgraded and provides an efficient and cheap way of getting around. The bus stop is very close to the complex as explained. Alternatively, a very enjoyable and popular way to go sightseeing is to get a day ticket on a HOP on / Hop off service that operate open-top double-decker London style buses. Google maltasightseeing to view the routes. Qala is actually one of the stops and so this provides an easy and efficent way of visiting all the interesting sites in Gozo.
