Getting around

The island is the largest of the Greek islands and a car is necessary to travel far. Buses cover most villages but are scarce. Cities and towns are covered by regular services which are relatively cheap. The apartment is handily placed for travel as it is a 2 minute drive to the main E75 road which goes from one end of the island to the other. The standard of the major roads is reasonable and make travel east, west or south easy. The scenery is pretty and colourful, the mountains are majestic and the sea is clear blue. There are also many historical sites to see of which Cretans are justly proud and within half an hour you can be in the mountains with cooler air.
