How to get there

From Tocumen airport the least expensive way to get to Pedasi, and a trip that will allow you to see and feel a lot of what Panama has to offer, is to take the large busses that run from the Albrook Bus Terminal (located next door to the large Albrook Mall) to Las Tablas.

Just follow these steps. Language will not be a problem. When you exit Immigration in the Tocumen airport, you'll be stopped by multiple taxi operators. Pick one. The price is the same, and should run you $35 for a taxi to Albrook. Ask for the Terminal de Bus at Albrook. Once at Albrook, enter the main portal. Its open air but has a large entrance which leads to many shops and kisoks. On the back wall, you'll find many small windowed sales kiosks with names of towns displayed over them. Look for the Las Tablas sales window. It is to the right as you enter the main entrance.

Once there, purchase a ticket for the bus trip. It will cost a little over $10. The ticket you purchase will be for the next bus out to Las Tablas. Just ask "Donde" and they'll point you to the waiting area. Inside the waiting area are several turnstiles that are only operated by a special card which you can purchase for a few dollars at several kiosks around the terminal. Get one. You'll use it for entrance to the bathrooms as well as to pass the turnstile to get to the bus. And, if you choose, you can use the same card for entrance to the new subway and on the metro busses in Panama City.

As soon as they will allow, enter the platform and as for directions for the bus to Las Tablas. It should be marked on the sign above the bus windshield. The busses leave approximately on the hour, but sometimes leave early if full.

The trip takes about 5 hours, punctuated by a potty and refreshment stop about midway. Food at these large fondas is good and inexpensive. Try it.

When you arrive in Las Tablas, you can either take a taxi for the remaining 40 minutes to Pedasi ($about 20 to $25) or walk into town to catch a small bus (typically 15 passenger vans). If you arrive in the evening or if you are carrying a lot of luggage, its' best to take the taxi as the walk is close to a mile and the buses don't run very frequently after the end of workday rush is over.
