The best way to reach Palermo is by plane. From the airport to the center of Palermo there is a bus. When you arrive in Palermo ask the driver to let you off in Piazza della Esedra-viale della Libertà. Cross the road and take the local bus to Mondello (number 806). You can ask the driver to let you off in Piazza Valdesi. Don't forget to buy tickets before taking the local bus at a newsstand or cafe (it is not always possible to buy the ticket on the bus). However, in my opinion the best way to reach Mondello from the airport is a taxi (my home address: viale Principessa Giovanna n. 2); the cost is around 45 euros. I recommend asking the driver how much it costs before getting on and asking for a receipt when you arrive. I recommend renting a car only if you want to visit the main locations near Palermo (you can park the car in the garden). I inform you that starting from May 2014 the Municipality of Palermo asks all guests to pay a tourist tax of 2 Euros per night per person for the first 4 nights.
