How to get there

Hafan Refail is located in the southwest of Anglesey.

Coming from other parts of Wales or England: Immediately after crossing the Menai Straits on the A55 Britannia Bridge, turn left to Llanfairpwll, then turn left again onto the A4080. Carry on past Plas Newydd and through Brynsiencyn. Continue along the A4080 for approximately 2 miles. Take the 4th and last turning (Lôn Capel) into the village of Dwyran – there is a sign for ‘Yr Hen Fecws’, as well as Dwyran sign (If you get as far as the petrol station, you have passed the turning). Drive past the disused primary school on your right and after about 100m, Hafan Refail is on the right (in the grounds of Tyn Rardd), just before the blind right-hand bend and opposite the ‘give way to oncoming traffic’ sign. Double gates lead to a gravel parking area - please feel free to park on RH side, next to the woodstore.

Coming from Ireland, via Holyhead: Follow the A55 towards Bangor, as far as Junction 6 (Llangefni, Pentre Berw). At the double roundabout, follow the A5 (Holyhead Rd) to Pentre Berw and Gaerwen. In Pentre Berw, turn right onto B4419 to Newborough (shortly after Holland Arms Garden Centre). Continue straight on through Llangaffo (where road technically becomes B4421) to Newborough. In Newborough, turn left at T-junction onto A4080 to pass through the village high street and out of village. Stay on main road (A4080) by turning left at the rural roundabout to Dwyran. Just after a sharp right-hand bend, pass the petrol station on left, then turn left into Dwyran into Lôn Capel. Follow the above instructions once on Lôn Capel.

Getting around

Although there is a bus service for Dwyran, it is so infrequent, you really need a car to enjoy the island properly. Again, because we are rural, taxis to and from Menai Bridge or Bangor are quite expensive. Cycling is popular in Anglesey now and there are many quiet lanes you can cycle on and a beautifully peaceful cycle trail approximately 3 miles from Stick Cottage. Further information can be found in the Information File in the cottage or on our website.
