How to get there

From Colchester, use the B1025. Cross the causeway, known as the Strood, take first left toward East Mersea. Take first right into Dawes Lane. At end of Dawes Lane, turn right into East Road. Take second left into Fairhaven Avenue; Oakleaves is at number 19 on the left hand side. Beware as The Strood cannot be crossed at high tide: we would definitely recommend that you do not attempt to drive through. This is what makes Mersea an island as it can be cut off at high tide depending on weather conditions and the time of year. There is a regular bus service from Colchester to Mersea.

It is quite easy to get around West Mersea as everything is within walking distance. The beach is about 5 minutes walk from the house and the village shops are a 10 and 20 minute walk depending where you wish to shop. There is also a regular bus service from Colchester which passes the end of Fairhaven Avenue and goes into and out of the village. The Anchorage is a very pleasant 45 minute walk along the beach but can be reached more quickly by road, about 5 - 7 minutes in the car.
