Getting around
you need a car to get around the island as bus services are sporadic and do not cover much of the island. However, there are a number of private minibuses on the island for hire and the pubs and restaurants have their contact numbers. Achill is very popular with cyclists, especially since the Mayo Cycle Hub was developed with three looped routes. The Great Western Greenway, between Achill and Westport, is the longest off-road cycle and walking track in Ireland and it was officially opened on 29th July 2011. You can hire bikes from Achill Bikes in Dooagh all year round, and from Costcutters in Keel during June, July and August.
