How to get there

The most price effective way to travel to the island is by ferry, Calmac ferries operate a couple of sailings each day and you can take a car across. A car is very helpful when visiting the Outer Hebrides as everything is within driveable distance. The ferry is just under 25 minutes drive from the cottages.

There is one airport on the Island called Stornoway Airport, about a 25-minute drive from the cottages.

You follow the road signs to Barvas (Barabhas in Gaelic, road signs are in Gaelic with English underneath). When you get to Barvas, follow the road until you reach Galson Motors Bus Garage on your left, stop and take the right at the sign for 'Moorpark Cottages'. Continue to the bottom of the road and the cottages are the last properties on your right.

Getting around

The most convenient way to travel around the island is by car. There are busses available but they are not very regular and won't take you to all the 'must-see' locations. You may want to cycle around the Hebrides too, however, we would recommend bringing having a car as well as bikes due to the unpredictable weather conditions and long distances. You are also able to rent a car for when you arrive to collect or get one when you arrive at either the ferry terminal and the airport.
