How to get there

From the apartment you can walk virtually all the city's historic centre. The tourist stops (and obliged!) closer are: Piazza Navona, arguably the most elegant and most joyous romana square, built on the ashes of the stadium of Domitian, now the piazza is a meeting point for Romans and tourists, that you hold in many outdoor cafes that surround it. Used in ancient times for athletic competitions and competitions of various kinds, today the piazza every day street artists, painters and portraitists who within minutes they manage to capture the most characteristic features of the model. At Christmas time the square is illuminated by a thousand colors and fills with candy stalls, handicrafts and figurines for the crib. The square is home to three beautiful fountains, including the "four rivers", commissioned to Bernini, on the occasion of the Jubilee of 1650 and the Church of Sant'Agnese in Agone always from the same period of Borromini.

A short walk from Piazza Navona, the splendid church of San Luigi dei Francesi, where you can admire three masterpieces by Caravaggio. Just turn the corner and here is the paradise of antiques, lamps, tables, writing desks makes a fine show in the glittering antiques shop on Via dei Coronari. Pedestrian path you reach the Pantheon, The Roman monument has passed with very little damage throughout history and you can still see almost the same appearance it had in antiquity. The temple, dedicated to all the gods, has no Windows but a single opening in the vault of about 9 meters, which represents the only source of natural light in the building.

In this region cannot miss the coffee break: traditionally, we recommend a stop in to Saint Eustace, who seems to be the best in Rome. The secret to ... try to find out!

As you walk toward the square in Spain, especially if it's a nice sunny day, you can't really miss a stop at a small square that seems out of time, considering that walking there is a noisy confusion of Via del Corso: piazza San Lorenzo in Lucina. It is one of the most beautiful rooms in the city, typical appointment for an aperitif in the various places with outdoor seating. Comfortably seated and enjoy the best views of the Church, which houses inside the chapel Fonseca, made by Bernini. Through Via del Corso, full of shops, luxury boutiques and shops of artists, we arrive at the threshold of Spain: the square is dominated by the magnificent travertine staircase of Trinità dei Monti and is dominated by the Church, while at the base here is the Fontana della Barcaccia, sculpted by Pietro Bernini and his son in 1629. The staircase, a meeting point for tourists and Romans, changes its appearance according to the season: in spring is entirely decorated with pots of colorful azaleas giving one amazing spectacle; in summer the show continues with parades of Haute Couture; in winter the backdrop for a beautiful crib.

On the left of the square, via del Babuino leads in the majestic but austere Piazza del Popolo. Today the Piazza del Popolo is a huge pedestrian area, where concerts, shows and events of various kinds (including the Roman new year celebrations). Cycling, museums, theaters and places for children are waiting just beyond Porta del Popolo, in the green heart of Rome: "Villa Borghese".

Crossed the Tiber arrive in what is a must for those who come to Rome: St. Peter's square, the center of world Christianity. Surrounded by the beautiful Colonnade by Bernini, the square is embellished by the Majesty of St. Peter's Basilica that overlooks and welcomes every year millions of pilgrims from around the world. Not to be missed, of course, a visit to the beautiful collections of the Vatican museums.

Not far from the basilica of St. Peter, at the end of Ponte Sant'Angelo, on the right bank of the Tiber River stands the imposing Castel Sant'Angelo. The mausoleum, built and probably designed by Adriano as a tomb for himself and his successors, was created initially by architect Demetriano around 123 and finished a year after the death of the Emperor from Antoninus Pius. From 1925 is the seat of the Museo Nazionale di Castel Sant'Angelo and houses collections of art and history.

A ' secret passage ', the famous "Passetto", carried by the Castle directly from the Vatican, and allowed the head of the Church to take refuge in case of need in the Castle and at the same time have a bastion that would allow a better control of the ward.

Finally, remember the ability to browse the Tiber in a unique natural environment! For several years there is a service that offers different types of cruise both in daytime hours that night.
