How to get there
BY PLANE: If you are flying to Punta del Este, you can arrive either to the Carrasco International airport, close to Montevideo (134 km far from Punta del Este) or to Laguna del Sauce Airport (actual name is Capitan Curbelo), which is located in Punta del Este. This airport operates with limited airlines.
BY SHIP: If you like to sail, you can arrive to Punta del Este in your own yacht or using the different transportation services that operate in the city. The arrival cities are: Colonia del Sacramento and Montevideo port if you are coming from Buenos Aires. Many of these companies include the bus ride to Punta del Este in the ticket rate. Other options are arriving to Uruguay in your own car (you can cross with your car on the ferry)

Getting around
To get to La Barra or José Ignacio you'd better have a means of transport like a car (renting a car is always going to be the best way to visit all the places). Buses are not very frequent and public transport like taxis usually have to be called over the phone (very expensive compared to standards of the rest of Uruguay). Hitchhiking is common for young people.
