How to get there

From either Quito or Guayaquil its about 5 1/2 hours by car, and 6 hours by bus. The roads are decent the whole way. From Quito, take the bus or drive to the coastal town of Pedernales. You may get to Pedernales from Quito either by the Aloag-Santo Domingo road (shorter), or via the Mindo road, the latter providing good opportunities to take your time and explore along the way. Both trips offer stunning scenery. From Pedernales, head south for 29 km, toward Jama. Keep your eye out for the town of Tabuga, and 1km after that the Lalo Loor reserve on the left. Punta Pacifica is another 5km down the road, just after you pass Playa Escondida. Look for the bamboo gate on the right side of the road, just before the yellow curve sign. A white tire marks the entrance. If you are coming from the south, the entrance is about 25 km north of Jama, and about 1 km past the village of Tasaste. Call the phone number posted by the gate, or buzz the buzzer so the caretaker can open the gate for you. IT IS VERY HELPFUL IF YOU SEND AN EMAIL WITH YOUR APPROXIMATE ARRIVAL TIME SO WE CAN BE SURE SOMEONE WILL BE READY TO LET YOU IN. Get an early start so you can arrive at Punta Pacifica before sunset!

I say here that a car is advised, but you may also arrive by bus if you don't mind walking uphill with your bags about 300m to the house from the road. Many intrepid travelers have no qualms about this. But if you like to take things a bit easier, or have children, a car really is essential. Alternatively, we can recommend a private van driver to take you to the property from Quito and pick you up at the end of your stay.

A further note: There are no sizeable supermarkets nearby, so we recommend you bring food with you from Quito, or stop in Pedernales and go to the market or grocery store. The closest large supermarket is about one hour away in Bahia. For longer stays, there is a vegetable truck that will come to the property once per week -- this should be arranged with the caretaker once you arrive.

Getting around

There is a public bus that runs up and down the coastal road during the day time hours. Coactur and Reina del Camino as well as local buses service the property. However they run irregularly so unless you have a laid back and flexible schedule, we recommend you have a car. The nearest sizeable towns are Pedernales (30 km north) and Jama (20 km south). Since the 2016 earthquake, Jama offers very few services, but Pedernales has grocery stores, restaurants, pharmacies, etc. There are small stores with the basics in the nearby villages of Tasaste and Tabuga (just 5 minutes away), and some decent restaurants 10 minutes away in Don Juan. Nevertheless, we recommend you bring most everything you will need for your stay!
