How to get there

Zermatt is a car free resort.

Most people will arrive here via one of the international airports and then get an onward transfer by train with one change at Visp. It is also possible to organise a road transfer (easier and quicker from Geneva than Zurich) or even a helicopter transfer via Air Zermatt. The closest Swiss airports are Geneva and Zurich - but when you are booking flights allow for a 4 hour train transfer from the airport up to Zermatt.

You can also get flights to Bern or Sion but the flight schedule to these airports is usually more restricted. If you are shopping around for flights it is also worth checking flights in to Milan which has a similar rail transfer time up to Zermatt but usually requires more than one change. If you are driving to Switzerland you can drive as far as Tasch and park your car there and then the final transfer up to the village is either by train (10 minutes) or by van through one of the parking operators in Tasch.

Once you have arrived in Zermatt you get around either on foot, on the electrobus or with one the electro taxis.
