3 steps from Athens Airport to the Home by the Sea:

- From Airport to B Rafina by bus, taxi or rent-a-car

- From B Rafina to Mamari by ferry

- From C Mamari to Karystos – Paximada by rent-a-car

From Airport to Rafina harbour by taxi:

There are taxis to be found just in front of the airport building.

In any case ask for the price to Rafina harbour before any suitcase is loaded into the car.

35€ is ok. 50€ is too much. Official prices can be found on the airport website.

You might be asked in Rafina to pay extra for motorway toll or suitcase handling.

From Airport to Rafina harbour by bus:

The bus is approx. 4€ per person and will take you in 20 minutes to Rafina harbour,

where it terminates. It starts direct at the airport.

Leaving the airport building you will cross both short stay and pick up lanes.

On your left there will be the only airport hotel, in which direction you will find the bus stop.

It is nothing more than an orange post. You should find a bus timetable on it.

Please enter an orange bus to Rafina. It will show Rafina / Ραφίνα in Greek and Latin letters.

There should be a bus every half hour. You just pay the driver in cash.

From Airport to Rafina harbour by rent-a-car:

Cars can be rented from Sixt, Europcar, Hertz und in the airport building.

The smallest possible car is the best choice on Greek roads. Depending on how adventurous you are, you might want to consider a 4x4. It is not needed for Karystos, but for exploring the Mountains advisable.

By car the best route is via motorway. Follow 62 to interchange, then 6 or E94 north until Palini exit and follow the signs to Rafina.

Recommendation:

We recommend to rent a car in Karystos. Take a bus to Rafina harbour, the ferry over to Marmari and pick up your rental car at Marmari harbour. Best prices you will get from “Joyride rental” in Karystos.

From Rafina harbour to Mamari by ferry:

At the harbour, please buy ferry tickets. The right counter can be found in a row of many in a building at the entrance of the harbour. “Μαρμάρι“ is what you are looking for. The ferry ride across is about 9€ per person. Ferries leave a bit further down the road. There are two ferries leaving for Marmari: Small old “Evia Star”, white and bigger new blue and white “Panorama”.

From Marmari to Karystos - Paximada by car:

Leaving the ferry it is easiest to follow the crowed to Karystos right hand side along the harbour.

After a sharp left turn the road goes uphill till a sharp right turn brings you on the road to Karystos.

Follow the signs to Karystos till this road ends in a T-crossing and turn right.

You will pass a BP petrol station on you left and a Carrefour supermarket on your right.

Turn behind a tire shop right into a small street towards the sea. At its end turn right into a very small street along the shore.

Continue on this road with all its twists and turns until the roads get numbers. The road you are on turns into Street Number 1.

Follow number 1 until you can turn left into Street Number 3, just in front of a water storage and go steep uphill.

On the top turn right into Street Number 18 and you will find the Home by the Sea just around the corner.
