How to get there

The "STONE HOUSE FIORO" is located in the center of the village of Akrotiri (cape). Akrotiri is one of the areas with the best climate on Zakynthos island. Coolness during the summer, as the ''Maistros'' (northeastern wind) blows and protected by the humidity of ''Ostria'' (southern wind) during the winter because the settlement is built behind the hill that forms the natural cape at this spot on the island. The privileged position and the rich natural vegetation with the olive groves and pine trees were the reasons why the old families of the nobles and the wealthy ones preferred to build their summer villas and their "mansions" here. Nowadays, the houses and the buildings situated in the area, as you will see for yourselves, still hold something from the elegance and the classy air of that previous era.

Very close to you, at the STONE HOUSE FIORO, only three hundred meters away you will find the tavern "Akrotiri" where in a simple, beautiful garden- courtyard you can enjoy delicious dishes of Zakynthian and Greek cuisine at exceptionally reasonable prices. Also, in the distance of one thousand meters, the tavern "Basia" (= entrance in the local dialect) situated in the natural space of an olive grove is one of the best dining options in the wider region. Your daily shopping needs can be supplied from Mrs. Eleni's mini market, located just 200 meters away from the "STONE HOUSE FIORO".

In the distance of 2.5km from Akrotiri and its natural continuity to the north, is situated the long, popular and organized with loungers and water sports, Tsilivi beach. The soft sand and the warm, shallow sea water, makes it ideal for both young children who can play in safely, and adults who can try all kinds of water sports. A nearby beach right after Akrotiri and before the town is the beach with small pebbles in Kryoneri, which is particularly popular with the locals. Now, in case you wish to explore the area and enjoy more privacy, small trails lead you through trees and natural vegetation like the reeds, revealing tiny coves and secret beaches of Akrotiri. Such small beaches are what the locals call "Fafla" and "Rema". If you decide to go there on foot (Mr. Nikos will be happy to show you the way), the experience will be more exciting, because you have the chance to see remnants of past times, like the ruins of a church, an old water tap still running and a small island which is slowly covered by the sea water...

The nature lovers will be really excited here as Akrotiri is ideally offered for hiking. Just choose the way, on foot or by bike, get ready to explore green slopes and tiny trails. Near or even through the dense olive groves, next to the pergolas of old mansions and new luxurious buildings homes. Each trip will be a special gift!

Akrotiri is very close to Tsilivi, Zakynthos Town, Bohalis- the hill that stands just above the town offering a spectacular view at least of the half island. In addition, "Lofos(=hill) of Strani", the place of inspiration for the national poet of Greece, Dionysios Solomos is in a short distance from the ''STONE HOUSE FIORO'' . The town of Zakynthos ''Hora'' for the locals is a great walk across the squares of St. Mark with the Enetician clock and Dionnysios Solomos with the statue of the poet. Moreover it is worthwhile visiting the "Museum of Solomos and Eminent Zakynthians" and the "Byzantine Museum", that both host of famous Zakynthian artists. Also, the Catholic Church -actually the only one of the island- St. Mark, founded in 1518 can be seen there. Later, after you have walked and seen the town, you can enjoy a coffee or a meal at one of the plenty cafes or restaurants located at the two squares.

The "STONE HOUSE FIORO" is definitely an excellent base for an unforgettable holiday for you to “explore” on foot or by car, and get to know these areas, as well as other wonderful destinations on the island.
