How to get there
By road
Set satnav to LA22 0JS
From the north and north east
Exit the M6 at J40 (Penrith) and take A66 towards Keswick. Follow signs to Windermere (A591).
Pass alongside Thirlmere, Grasmere and Rydal Water into Ambleside.
Filter right onto A593 signposted Hawkshead and Coniston. Follow one-way street into left turn and then filter into the right hand lane (signed Hawkshead and Coniston) immediately before the rugby club.
Follow A593 over narrow bridge into Clappersgate. Take left turn (signed Hawkshead) onto B5286. Continue approximately 4 miles to Hawkshead. Getting around
There's an hourly bus service from Hawkshead to Coniston or to Ambleside. There are a number of circular routes from the house, or Hawkshead village which are suitable for walkers and cyclists. I keep a small library of maps and guidebooks
