How to get there

Airports: if you're coming from Stanstead get the A9 bus to Stratford — it's MUCH nearer than Victoria (you can get a train to Hackney Central and walk from there). Or get the Stansted express to Liverpool St and the train to London Fields from there (quickest but most expensive option).

From Gatwick, I'd suggest getting the train (not the Express) to London Bridge, and the 48 bus to Mare St (St Joseph's Hospice bus stop then walk up Westgate Street which turns into Lansdowne Drive.

From Heathrow, take the tube to Liverpool Street and get the overground to London Fields. Eurostar: From St Pancras International take the tube to Liverpool Street and then a train to London Fields. Getting to central London: Regular train to Liverpool Street from London Fields Station. This takes about ten minutes and you can connect here with the Central line directly into town. Trains run very regularly and I go this way when I'm in a hurry. See the National Rail Enquiries website for exact times (4-6 per hour). The nearest underground is Bethnal Green about a 15 minute walk or a four minute bus ride. You can get the bus from outside Iceland supermarket on Mare Street. It's the second bus stop. Take any bus that doesn't say Finsbury Park on the front. Get off at the Museum of Childhood. Alternatively you can get a bus directly into town (it's cheaper), the number 55, or the number 38 from Graham Road. My personal favourite is 'the magic bus' no. 394 simply because it drops you right outside the front door. It’s like taking a really slow ferry all round the back streets of Hoxton and Angel. If you've got lots to carry and a spare 25 minutes then it's sometimes a nice way to get home or half way into town!
