TOP TIP:
If in summer flights to Alicante / Valencia look to be expensive, try flying to Madrid & spend a couple of days visiting places on the way to Javea.
Flights to Madrid can often be cheaper but you have a longer drive so break your journey by calling in at:
Toledo: a world heritage site S of Madrid.
Cuenca: wonderful town SE of Madrid with houses 'hanging' from the cliffs.
And don't forget Madrid or Valencia.

Getting around
A car is recommended / necessary. There is a bus service linking the Arenal, Port & Old town but it is also a pleasant & easy walk between them all. Try using the ferry boat service to Denia ( from the port ). Its a pleasant day excursion, particularly with lunch in Denia. Or combine it with a visit to Denia market. The Thursday market in Javea old town is worth visting as is the Saturday flea market in Jalon. Both start early...9.30 ish.
