How to get there
If you come by air, there's a direct flight from Oslo Airport (Gardermoen) to Harstad/Narvik Airport (Evenes). Going this route, you either rent a car at the airport or jump on a bus which stands just outside the terminal. The bus must be labelled (in the front) as going to Sortland, which is the end station for this bus. In Sortland you change bus and take the one labelled Andenes. But you don't go all the way to Andenes. You must stop at the village Åse which is about 60 kilometres from Sortland. The easiest is to ask the bus driver to stop at the grocery shop, Åse servicesenter. Also on the sign of the shop it says Matkroken and Euronics.

Getting around
Because public transportation is not very good, it's necessary to have a car to get around the island and to the surrounding area like to the Lofoten islands. 10 km. south of Åse, there is a village called Risøyhamn. There the Coastal Express (Hurtigruten) make a 15-minutes stop. Hurtigruten sail daily between Bergen in the south-west and Kirkenes in the north-east. One can also bring a car on the ship, but it's safest to order in advance.
