How to get there
By car the D117 and D118 roads lead to Quillan from North, East and West, Calias is about 10-11 hours drive. There is a local railway station in Quillan, for trains from Carcassonne to the north (often only €1). The nearest airports are (respectively) Carcassonne, Perpignan, Toulouse, Beziers and Girona (Spain), all served by low cost airlines and from less than 1 hour up to 2 hours transfer time by car. There is also a bus connection to Perpignan, from where there are international coach and TGV services.
Getting around
Although not essential, a car or motorbike is helpful for accessing the wonderful landscapes, however it is a cyclists mecca also, with the Tour de France sometimes passing through. The local train and bus will take you to Carcassonne and Perpignan and stops in between. There are plenty of local taxi's, although they are not as cheap in France as in some countries and Uber has yet to arrive: At Axat, about 10 mins away the Little Red tourism train will take you on the route to Perpignan at a leisurely pace and perhaps with wine stops on the way! For winter guests, local winter sports resorts are situated 30-40 minutes drive away with larger resorts just over an hours drive making this Ideal for those skiers and non skiers alike.
