From the owner

This Grade II-listed flint cottage is a piece of Margate history. Formerly part of the Cobb brewery, in years gone by it was used as a barrel store. Now, complete with original old beams scavenged from ships, it is a two bedroom holiday home ready for weekends and holidays on the Kent coast.

Set back from King Street in Margate's famous Old Town, with its shops, cafes and more The Old Barrel Store is two minute's walk from the Turner Contemporary gallery, the sea front and seconds from all the Old Town's attractions.

Facilities include:

Furnished largely from Margate's range of antique and vintage shops there's lots to look at and be inspired by.

Egyptian cotton bedding, blankets to keep you warm and 200 year old flint walls to keep you cool!

We also provide kitchen basics to get you started for your trip and a great guide to local activities and places to eat and drink.

Staples and Co have been handmaking beds from 1895.

Our twin beds have a Royal warrant originally granted by King George V. In October 1915, the King was advised by his physicians to sleep on a Staples bed after an accident. The unique construction of which had already demonstrated its superiority in maintaining correct spinal support, which we now recognise as being an essential ingredient in healthy, restful sleep. That the bed had “given satisfaction” to the King was quoted in all literature and advertisements by the company. In the ensuing years, similar beds were supplied to many of the Royal Residences. These original frames and mattresses are Staples No.1 Mattress by appointment to HM The Queen.

Why can't I call Sunetra (the owner) before booking?

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Sunetra (the owner) a message.

If Sunetra (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
