The England region

Good base for touring the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District. Blossoms in spring, wonderful colours in autumn, rural views all year round. Local walks to Black Rocks are lovely, and Wirksworth is a charming town with a thriving hobby railway. Cromford, one mile away, boasts the history of Arkwright Mills, canal walks and retail outlets. Stately homes such as Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are short drives away. Other local towns include Ashbourne and Matlock. Matlock Bath has riverside walks, and a cable car to Abraham's Heights. Carsington Water is a local lake with boating, food and retail. Alton Towers, a major theme park, is beyond Ashbourne.

Matlock

Bolehill is a small hamlet on the side of a hill overlooking Wirksworth. There are walks up the hill, to a local pub and across the valley. We are close to the Southern end of the Peak District rail trail - you can hire cycles at Middleton Top - and less than one hour's drive to the High Peak with its caves and mountains. Wirksworth, Cromford and Ashbourne have good restaurants. There are many gardens you can visit, including Lea Rhododendrum Gardens just across the valley. The local train line is easy to get to, about 20 minutes into Derby (with free parking at the station).

“Brilliant cottage in a fantastic area”

Reviewed 30 Jun 2016

Cottage is idyllic and in a great location in the middle of the Peak District. Very well well appointed and very comfortable. Exciting areas with lots to do and see.

“Lovely cottage with beautiful views”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2015

The cottage was really excellent, with a comfortable sun room and lovely patio overlooking the hills and roof tops. Good wifi and the kitchen was well equipped. Bring your own tea towels! We had a good trip to the Heights of Abraham and also to Matlock swimming pool. There was a handy shed for the bikes too.. The cleaner was very helpful when we realised we had left some items behind and arranged for us to collect them.

“Excellent place / price / clean and the facilities great x”

Reviewed 2 Jun 2015

Everything was top notch. A few odd bits (shower head) but that would be being picky.. It was a great little place for us to show 4 foreign friends round our beautiful countryside.

“Wonderful cottage”

We had a wonderful week at Acacia Cottage. The cottage is well equipped, spacious and very comfortable. Quietly positioned with lovely views. Everything you could possibly want.
