Mayoyao Travel tips:
Nearest International airport is: NCIA, Lay Lo, Cagayan Province,Luzon Phil. (5 hours to Mayoyao) or Tuguegarao, Cagayan Province, Luzon, Phil. (3.5 hours to Mayoyao) Cebu Pacific Air fly in Cauayan four times weekly (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays) utilizing an Airbus A320 aircraft.
Mayoyao is a quiet, small town of 16,000 people located in Ifugao Province, Cordillera Administrative Region, Luzon, Philippines. Travel from Manila is either by Public bus, chartered private car or rental car (4 wheel drive required). Bus travel time to either Banaue or Santiago City is around 6.5- 8.5 hours. You then transfer to regional bus (1.5-2.5 hours to Mayoyao from Banaue.(3.5-4. hours to Mayoyao from Santiago City, Cagayan Province.
Travel times by chartered car or van or rental will be less depending on when on when you leave Manila( best times are late pm or early am to shorten trip). We have local tourist guides and tours can be provided by local tourist office near our property.
Mayoyao is a very unique place as it has not been over developed or really exposed to International visitors because of its isolated location and zero promotion by the government. The Mayoyao people are still strongly tied to their traditional culture and connection to preserving the rice terraces. Most visitors come to view the rice terraces, hiking, mountain climbing, or biking, waterfalls, and share the unique culture of the Ifugao people.
Mayoyao is an U.N World Heritage Site, honoring its 2000 year cultivation of its rice terraces and it rich cultural connection with the land. Mayoyao is also the location of the final World War II historical battle of Mayoyao Ridge, which ended the Japanese occupation of the Philippines in 1945.
Mayoyao has limited public food services, most food is local and organically grown and they do have a daily central market. All government, tourist, medical, police and internet and business services are provided within a five minute walk of our home. We provide scheduled meal plans upon request for your family. Costs based on your diet options and number of meals per day.
This is our second home and my wife's birthplace. Our home was built in 2008 and we have completed a 3 bedroom addition each with private bath and toilet.
