Vacate by 10am arrive from 4pm onwards.Short breaks by arrangement.The cottage has its own car park for 3 cars.Orchard cottage rental includes all linen & white towels. A telephone can be supplied for incoming urgent calls.Our Scottish Borders welcome pack includes Nairns oatcakes,Scottish cheese ,fresh bread, Scottish butter,milk,coffee, tea, fresh orange and Scottish Porridge Oats from John Hogarth Ltd in Kelso. It will all be ready for you on arrival. We try to supply traditional local /Scottish food and beverages with our complimentary wine (which is of course French !) & Champagne for honeymoon couples .Kiddies --while we are delighted to welcome children.Please note, the cottage has large enclosed splash showers i.e no bath. The contemporary wall fire if used is unguarded, so care must be taken with children touching it when hot. However there is an excellent modern central heating system keeping the cottage nice and toasty in cold weather . We can also supply a good sized travel-cot,high chair and a plastic baby bath if requested.

Both bedrooms(upstairs and dowstairs) have dressing tables with mirrors, hairdryers, fitted wardrobesand chests of drawers. They have twin beds which can be made in to doubles. The sun room which doubles as the third bedroom,closes off with plantation shutters for complete privacy and has a very comfortable double sofa bed .Wardrobe and drawers included.The upstairs master bedroom has a walk in wardrobe and the private shower room is the adjoining room on the same level.There is a fully fitted utility room with tumble dryer and washing machine. Outdoor clothing can be hung in the generously fitted cloakroom in the hall. Modern shower rooms, house glass enclosed deluge showers and have stainless steel wall hung towel radiators. The open plan modern kitchen is spacious and fully kitted out.Wall hung digital flat screen TVs are in both bedrooms and main living area. There is also a DVD,Bose Soundock +Alexa in the lounge,with a large selection of films and music to choose from .A digital radio in the kitchen and of course free BT home hub wireless internet .There are plenty of indoor board games to choose from and a good selection of books. Lots of local and Edinburgh information/ maps /walks and tourist attractions are available along with contact telephone numbers for all local restaurants, services and amenities. Horse riding, golf ,fishing and clay pigeon shooting can all be arranged. A Bus stop is at the top of the road. We now have the new Borders railway with the local station a 10 minute walk away. ! The new Borders railway line will take you straight to Edinburgh with all its attractions . What a great day out ! .

The cottage sits in its own grounds with a private off street car park. Steps lead down to the patio area at the front of the cottage which is a real sun trap in the late afternoon / evening. There is a raised decking area with patio set for taking in the morning /afternoon sun, and a wonderfully busy bird table for the ornithologists . View the moon over the Eildons & count the stars at night . Next to the cottage is a beautifully designed village nature garden with stone seating. Over the opposite wall is the famous Darnick Peel Tower the oldest inhabited Peel tower in Scotland. A book on all the local battles and history is available to read in the cottage. Kids... hunt the cottage sword from a local battle when you arrive! Mary Queen of Scots slept close by! ABBOTSFORD A historic house, near Melrose. It was formerly the residence of historical novelist and poet, Sir Walter Scott. The house contains an impressive collection of historic relics, weapons and armour, including Rob Roy's gun, dirk and sword, and an extensive library containing over 9,000 rare volumes. It sits amid formal gardens and a wider landscape that Scott designed and planted.For the children there is a fabulous play trail, not to mention the wonderful visitor centre and cafeteria.Sir Walter Scott himself used to ride to Darnick Tower as a frequent visitor and attempted to purchase it many times.The house is now fully open to the public after extensive renovation with Lottery funding.
