Location description from owner

The Central Mexico and Gulf Coast region

The historic center of Coyoacan is one of the intellectual and bohemian neighborhoods of Mexico City. Numerous national and foreign public figures - artists, intellectuals and politicians- have had their residence in Coyoacán or in their neighborhoods.

Mexico City

Two of the main points of interest are Centenario and Hidalgo Gardens, where concur all kinds of people regardless of religion, culture or social class -graphics artists, tarot readers, fortune tellers, tradesmen-. Normally, you can find them around the Fountain of the Coyotes. Today inside of the garden is the Craft Market Coyoacan. The Greenhouse of Coyoacán (Viveros de Coyoacán), with abundant plant species, is visited by many people and also serves as a space for exercise.

The Square and Chapel of the Conception, known as La Conchita, was the first church built in New Spain. The historical evidence suggests that it was in this place where the first mass was held in the territory that would become the heart of the Viceroyalty. Later there were built the Chapel Saint Catherine of Siena, also known as Santa Catarina, which was a chapel of indigenous or opened chapel, and the church and convent of San Juan Bautista, famous for its beautiful paintings and altarpieces.

In Coyoacán we can find characteristic gastronomic attractions of the same as the "Cafe El Jarocho", founded by Gil Romero and Bertha Paredes, workers from a store seeds and fruits brought from Veracruz, later Bertha Paredes remains as the owner of that business which later would change its place to the streets of Cuauhtemoc and Allende resulting "Café El Jarocho" where coffee of pot, black coffee and latte was produced entirely by hand, since no coffee maker was available. Thanks to the demand for coffee, an industrial coffee maker was acquired with which began the sale of more specific drinks such as cappuccino and American Express. We can also find the famous quesadillas of the Coyoacan's market with enough varieties to go out there the seven days a week. The most characteristic in the center of Coyoacan are the churros, and richer even if they are stuffed, they have a huge variety and all very original flavors. Most are stuffed with cream cheese with some jam and classic caramel, chocolate and eggnog, pie the lemon and Baileys.

In Coyoacan is located the University City of the UNAM, Plaza de Churubusco and former convent of the same name.

Some of the theaters are located in Coyoacán are Rafael Solana, Juan Luis de Alarcon, Santa Catarina, Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz Forum, the National Center for the Arts, among others.

The University Cultural Center is the most important cultural complex of the University City and hosts the Coordination of Cultural Diffusion. The most prominent venues in this set are the Nezahualcoyotl auditorium -for which have passed countless orchestras, ensembles and soloists for its magnificent scenery, its architecture carefully planned by architects Arcadio Artis and Orso Nunez, and acoustics by Christopher Jaffe, the Miguel Covarrubias auditorium, where dance is mostly present, although sometimes they also do operas - and the Carlos Chavez auditorium; in addition to the new University Museum of Contemporary Art (MUAC) and Universum.
