From the owner

Mill Cottage is comfortably furnished, cosy and characterful, with a mixture of antique and modern furniture.

Originally the Miller's home, a charming wisteria covered, 2 storey stone building which sits on the banks of the river Gelise surrounded by lush Gascony farmland. A large garden encircles the property and the river runs through it, meandering around an adjoining field, ideal for picnics and fishing from the river bank. However we must add that the river is not fenced and therefore for safety reasons the property is not suitable for small children. It is the ideal place for a quiet, secluded, tranquil holiday, lounging in the south facing garden, gently exploring the surrounding countryside or rowing along the river. Kyaks are rentable in the village - you can shoot the rapids going over the weir and travel on down the river, exploring fairly wild countryside - kingfishers, cormorants, egrets, duck and moor-hen plus many more species live along the riverbanks and wild boar and deer roam the adjacent woodland.

The entrance to the cottage from the south facing lawns leads into a 'summer kitchen' area, with 2nd fridge, washing machine, sink etc and a downstairs shower room and w.c. The accommodation is upstairs and comprises a fully equipped modern kitchen, and a separate dining area, both with views of the river; there is a comfortable sittingroom. Sleeping accommodation: twin bedded room, double bedded room, single room, views over adjoining farmland. Bathroom with bath and shower and w.c, plus a separate w.c; The cottage is furnished tastefully and comfortably with both modern and antique furniture and paintings. The beds are made up with 100% cotton sheets and you can choose either blankets or duvet; Towels are provided including some beach towels; linen change once a week. The kitchen has modern equipment and is stocked with a selection of basic provisions ready for your arrival - tea, coffee, milk, sugar ++ etc.

Loungers are provided and there is an outside dining table and chairs, sheltered from the sun by parasols.

The village of Mezin, one of the prettiest in the area, is only 1.5 miles away, offering a variety of restaurants and shops and a busy weekly market on Sunday morning and an evening of food and entertainment (supper market) on a Monday evening (July and August) in the village square. There are tennis courts and a heated swimming pool. Further afield the area offers many activities and the cottage is ideally placed for sightseeing in the numerous medieval towns in both the Gers and the Lot et Garonne; and for enjoying local events; fetes, festivals and nocturnal 'supper' markets.

We live in the old Mill which sits astride the river behind the cottage. Although in the country the property is not remote or lonely.

An interesting footpath across the fields to the village takes approx 40mins. it is part of the pilgrim route to Compostelle.

House rules

Our property is not fenced and due to the proximity of the river, it runs alongside the garden, we feel it is not suitable for toddler/small children. We also have a harmless, loving but boisterous dog! who would love to accompany you if you walk around our meadow.
