Food & Local Cuisine:

Bulgarian cuisine is a mixture of Greek, Turkish and Slavonic influences. We sample many traditional specialities including 'smilyanski fasul', a delicious bean soup and 'patatnik', a local delicacy made with grated potatoes, onions, milk, cheese and seasoned with mint. Eggs and cheese are a staple part of the local cuisine, in particular 'sirene' a local feta-type cheese.

The unique hospitality of the local people, who are very friendly and helpful and the delicious local cuisine, attract many of those who have decided to spend a holiday in Momchilovtsi and the Rhodopi Mountains.

Shops can be found on almost every street in the village. They are small but sell almost everything. There is an abundance of fresh seasonal fruit, salad and vegetables in the shops and also in the market which is located in the centre of the village.

Local Churches and Places of Interest to visit in Momchilovtsi

The religion in the village is Christian Orthodox and it is surrounded by 24 churches all of different ages and sizes. They are open 24 hours a day and each one is maintained by the families of the village. The churches are centres for celebrations, contemplation and a booklet is being printed to show the location and walks linking them.
On the two highest points of the village there are two crosses aproximately 10' high which are lit up at night to protect the village from harm. In the centre of the village is a large, very old Church.

They also provide interesting places to walk to and sit by to view the surrounding areas and the village (Image: St Elena and St Konstantin Church.

WINTER & SUMMER ACTIVITIES

Information on Winter & Summer Activities
Summer Activities in and around Momchilovtsi and Pamporovo
Winter activities in and around Momchilovtsi and Pamporovo
Summer Activities in Momchilovtsi and surrounding areas for the whole family to enjoy.

The sparkling lakes, awesome caves and spectacular landscapes and the ever-surprising flora and fauna make hiking through these regions an experience of a lifetime, especially when the whole region is so closely linked with the traditions of yesteryear, and be cultures that have survived the test of time. While the nature lover has more than enough opportunities to explore the region to his heart's content, the more adventurous visitor will be amazed at what Bulgaria's mountains have to offer, and will certainly find that he simply won't have the time to try all that is on offer.

These activiites and excursions include nature activity and rambles, trekking, paintballing, horse riding, Hot springs spa therapy, Trigrad and the Devil's Cave, trips to the Observatory, The Seven Wonderful Bridges and much more:

* Nature Walks and Guided hiking trails in and around Momchilovtsi: that take in aromatic alpine forests and meadows that abound this region, stopping at one of the many small chapels that form the "Ring Of Fire" around Momchilovtsi.
* Aegean Sea Experience. A 2 day trip is now available with us into Greece and the Aegean Sea. Now only a couple of hours drive away, you could be aboard a ferry boat, taking you to the beautiful Island of Thassos.

We can arrange many more activities during your stay, includingfishing, horse-riding, hot spa and springs therapy, and excursions to Bachkovo Monastery, Assen's Fortress, or the Wonderful Bridges.

Winter Activities in and around Momchilovtsi - Bulgaria's mountain regions offer an excellent opportunity for either nature-oriented or activity holidays. Although maybe lacking the height and excitement of Mount Everest, the vastness of the Grand Canyon and the impenetrable unknown of the Amazon jungle, they have their own special charm: tailor-made for today's tourist who looks for that little bit more from a holiday.

The Snowboard Park in Momchilovtsi is located just about 10 minutes drive from the village. It is used by snowboarders and skiers and provides hot and alcoholic refreshments and snacks and "apres ski" activities It is not only ideal for beginners and those who want to brush up on their skills but it a fantastic place to have fun in the snow and see the magic of the surrounding mountains from the Chapel at the Top of the Piste.

The park has skidoos and a climbing wall which add to the fun. Prices at the Snowboard Park are far more competitive and less expensive than in Pamporovo. The Park is also less crowded and it is ideal for a family fun day out without the crowds . All equipment, ie. Skis and boots can be hired on a daily rate at the Park

Pamporovo Ski Resort. Pamporovo has an exclusive climate, featuring a mild winter with about 120 sunny days during the skiing period. The skiing season starts from mid December and lasts until mid April. The average air temperature is -3 ° C. The gentle profile of the mountain with its rounded slopes and summits makes Pamporovo particularly suitable for beginners.
