Perched on a hillside in the Monte Rio Terraces, this cozy one bedroom cabin is surrounded by soaring redwoods, and beautiful views through floor-to-ceiling windows. Pet friendly, sleeps up to 4, with a short walk to the beach and groceries.
The Space
Excitement builds as you climb the gentle stairway that reveals the three wide floor-to-ceiling windows of your hilltop aerie. Once tucked inside the romantic wood-paneled warmth, you will stay cool and relaxed – it's always at least 10 degrees warmer below in town - and nighttime often offers exceptional opportunities to snuggle up with blankets – to read, write, play, or just daydream about what tomorrow holds.
The TreeHouse cabin has a wide-open feel that combines old world charm with a contemporary aesthetic and a fun, retro 50s kitchen that's both a little bit kitschy and way classy.
Fully equipped with wireless internet, phone, and television, the TreeHouse allows you to plug-in or tune into almost any century. The large overstuffed leather reading chair seems to invite you in with your hard-cover book, iPad, Nook, or last year's stack of old magazines, to sit next to the wood burning fireplace and imagine a wintertime reverie.
One surprise may delight those seeking a different kind of getaway: located in the living room, a hidden secretary writing desk ready for your laptop. A best-selling book and scores of known essays have been penned here.
With two decks and an upper picnic/sitting area, there are plenty of outdoor spaces to enjoy the surrounding redwoods. The side deck affords the most intimate and private space with comfortable lounge chairs. Perched high above a soothing hillside stream, the forest sounds can be heard while taking in a lazy afternoon.
Situated high above the street, views of the remote lightly traveled hillside road are buffered through the trees providing a delightfully secluded feel.
The kitchen retains period charm and gets some updating with a sweet eat-in dining area. As with the rest of the house, the windows look out into the redwoods with additional light provided by the kitchen skylight that opens to the stately trees above.
Terraced behind the TreeHouse at the top of the property, is a sitting area anchored with a charming redwood picnic table. It's the perfect place for larger outdoor snacking, family meals, and unwinding with your favorite beverage!
A charming home that's perfect for 2-4 people (the sofa folds out for additional bed space), the TreeHouse is nestled in an array of trees as fragrant as they are majestic. Welcome to a new experience, one you'll likely want to make a lifelong tradition!
Guest Access
Guests have access to all spaces at the TreeHouse, inside and outside.
Interaction with Guests
The TreeHouse is a vacation rental year round. I do not reside there, but am available by phone for emergencies, etc.
The Neighborhood
The TreeHouse spot is truly magical. In fact, the whole neighborhood is. A forest cover of evergreens (mostly coast redwoods) provide a constant feeling of shade throughout the day, with a coolness of temperature that's constant, and fog that's sometimes present. Light changes (sun does break through in several places), throughout the day, provide a variety of experiences. Textures, colors and aromas will greet one as they stroll the narrow, winding roads through the neighborhood. The Terraces has friendly neighbors and visitors (several with sweet dogs). It's a cool place.
Getting around
Monte Rio is a lovely community along the Russian River. It's relatively small in size, therefore, no robust transit system is available to the TreeHouse. Although, a bus line does run along Bohemian Highway and The River Road with a stop near Bartlett's Grocery (about 1 mile down from the TreeHouse). There's one guest parking spot in front of the TreeHouse, accessed from the public road. The nearest airport is the Sonoma County Airport (STS), located north of Santa Rosa, west of Hwy. 101 on Airport Blvd. It's about a half hour from the TreeHouse. The nearest international airport is SFO (south of San Francisco), and OAK (Oakland).
