Large traditional reeds hut built on 3 floors, overlooking the Mangrove with loads of sleeping space, ideal for groups of friends or families, situated right in the middle of Nosy Kely, the lively tourist area of Morondava, 20m from the beach.

THE SPACE

The «GITE» is a large ventilated dorm on 3 floors, Youth Hostel like. Built in traditional style & materials (“mokoty”, kind of palm leaves & “vondro”, local reeds), there aren't many walls, just colourful sheets of material separating sleeping areas to allow for natural ventilation. This means no sound proofing whatsoever… but a very airy space, like a Tarzan hut. Kids love it.

There are 3 double beds (two very large: 1.90m x 2.10m) and 4 single beds, all with mosquito nets, WC & shower room.

It is equipped for 10 people (sheets & towels), but you are welcome to create additional sleeping capacity by hanging your own hammocks on the top floors.

GUEST ACCESS

You have access to a very rudimentary kitchen with no fridge, but you will find many little shops who sell cold drinks a few meters from the hut. The market is not far away for fresh daily vegetables, fruit & meat, and fishermen wives pass daily with fish and prawns.

We are only 20m from the beach and have a pontoon right under our dining room terrace overlooking the Mangrove, so if you are arriving by boat you can park it there for a small fee to contribute to its upkeep.

There are also Car Parking facilities in the forecourt, but please do not wash your cars there or it'll wash all the sand off...

Other things to note:

Our neighbourhood is rather vibrant... We are sited about 10m from an open air disco and several lively street bars. So if it is quiet and peace you are after, this is probably not the best place for you…

Also make sure you don't leave valuables, money, phones, tablets, cameras or computer equipment lying around. The hut is very easy to break into... We won't accept responsibility for any stolen goods.

Bed lined and towels are provided for 10 people, but if you are going to be more than 10 you will have to bring your own extra ones.

Our hut being built in highly flammable dried reed & palm material, smoking or the use of candles is totally forbidden indoors!

The hut is uninsurable, so any damage by fire will be at your entire risk and responsibility. The only fire truck in town is miles away at the Airport... The hut and neighbourhood will have burned down before they even start the engine.

Please make sure you don't loose or walk away with the rechargeable light bulbs remote controls...!

There are a few parking spaces in the forecourt, but no vehicles to be washed there.

Please make sure you never leave lying around in the hut any valuables like mobile phones, cameras, laptops and of course money and passports. One group had a mobile phone stolen...!

At night or during the day if you don't want to carry them with you, ask Jean to lock them in the office downstairs.

As we are off sailing most of the time, local Solange & Jean Niriko who are in charge of the GITE, will welcome you. And Gaga, who lives just below, will come and clean daily. You can make arrangements with her directly for your personal laundry as this service is not included in the price. Although crockery, cutlery and traditional energy efficient Malagasy "fatapera" are provided for your own cooking downstairs, Solange or Gaga will be delighted to prepare Malagasy meals for you.

How do damage deposits work?

If Laetitia (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
