Samyama boutique hotel sits on the West-facing beach south of Negombo, and has been designed and built thoughtfully as a retreat by Cecily, a yoga therapist and nutrition guru and completed in 2008.
It is a special place which affords you the ability to unwind, replenish, and alleviate all spiritual and mental blockages. The sun rises over the lagoon to the west and brings to life a colourful, lush front garden punctuated by tall coconut palms.
You will wake up and be greeted by the gleaming sunlight, distant sound of the waves on the beach and early morning chorus of the birds.
You retire to your comfortable, cool and airy en-suite room which will have either a patio or balcony from which to watch both sunrise and sunset.
The private pool in the middle of the estate links the garden and sunset area, and is a welcome option at any point in the day. The area accommodates dinner and drinks as well as a spot to read and embrace the ambience.
Between the beach and pool the private sunset area is suitable for games, relaxation and barbecues as the sun falls through the sky and turns orange.
Being 40 or so metres from the surf you will also fall asleep to the sound of the waves after watching the sun hurry behind the horizon that stretches across the Indian Ocean toward the Maldives.
Samyama is light and airy inside, with a magnificent entrance hall filled with natural light via a glass dome. Doors and windows are tall and the sitting room expansive and dressed in warm colours with a high ceiling.
The sitting room balcony looks west at the beach and sunset, and directly beneath the downstairs patio a versatile space suitable for yoga, pilates, drinks, dancing, talks, meetings and more.
No matter the reason for visiting, nor the duration of your stay, you will feel at ease at Samyama.
