The Costa del Sol region

Nearby towns of Frigiliana & Torrox offer the experience of authentic Spanish whitewashed villages. The world famous Caves are located in Maro just 3 km east of Nerja. Baviera Golf Course is within 15 mins drive & the ski resort of the Sierra Nevada, Granada is just 2 hours drive. Ski & dine on the beach on the same day! Walking is very popular in the Sierra de Almijaras.
For those in search of retail therapy, there is a good selection of shops & boutiques in Nerja & large shopping centre at Velez Malaga. Malaga city offers excellent shops & restaurants together with a great insight in to the history of the area. The Cathedral & Bull Ring are well worth a visit.

When visiting this region for the first time, it doesn't take long to understand how it has come to be one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. The narrow strip of land sandwiched between the Mediterranean and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range which has come to be known as the Costa del Sol offers a wealth of geographical, historical and cultural attractions. Activities available locally include hiking, golf, tennis, fishing, horseback riding, wildlife sightseeing trips, all manner of watersports and even skiing in the mountains.

The great Arab cities of Granada, Sevilla, Cordoba and Malaga contain some of the finest examples of Moorish architecture in Europe and are all day-trips from Nerja. A few miles inland from Nerja, Frigiliana, one of dozens of whitewashed villages that pepper the foothills of the Almijaras, is a beautiful example of a humbler form of Moorish architecture, with its steep narrow streets only passable on foot or donkey.

In more recent times, Catholocism has been a dominant cultural influence in Spain and although the church's influence has decreased over the last 50 years, during Franco's repressive regime, the people used the religious festivals as an opportunity to gather in public in large numbers and party !! These traditions are still very strong today and all the locals come out and participate in the Fiestas. Some of Nerjas most enjoyable festival include Carnival in February, Semana Santa from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday, San Isidro Romerio around May 15th when all the people get dressed up and walk/dance to Maro, San Juan around 25th June when bonfires are lit on the beaches, everyone gathers and enjoys a barbecue before going into the water at midnight and in October there is a 6-day fair.

Day trips include Marbella with its famous Puerto Banus marina, and also Granada with its magnificent Alhambra Palace, as well as the classical city of Seville. Golf can also be enjoyed only 15 mins. drive away at Baviera Golf close to Caleta de Velez and also at Anoreta Golf at Rincon de la Victoria. The Water world is a must for all the family at Torre del Mar.

Nerja

Nerja!! The jewel of the Costa del Sol. Probably the best climate in Europe!!

Nerja is a coastal town at the foot of the Almijara mountains with a long tradition of fishing and agriculture. The fishermen still pull their nets ashore on Burriana beach and fresh produce can still be bought from the doorways of local people's houses. The weekly market (Tuesdays) attracts many traders and shoppers from all over the region and the town centre has a vibrant, friendly atmosphere with many lovely shops and tapas bars & restaurants.

While Nerja bears no resemblance to the 'high-rise' holiday developments often associated with the Costa del Sol, it is a popular destination for North European and Spanish tourists and offers all the necessary ingredients for a fantastic holiday - good road link to airport (45 minutes), a huge choice of restaurants to suit every budget, bars, cafes, nightclubs, beautiful clean beaches and of course lots of sunshine.

A car is not necessary for a holiday in Nerja as everywhere in town is easily accessible by foot and there are good local bus, taxi and coach services

Nerja is a wonderful contrast between a sleepy fishing village with a fantastic lively atmosphere in the evenings ideal for families, couples and friends. Nerja has five wonderful sandy beaches offering sunbed & parasol hire, watersports, pedaloes, tapas bars and restaurants.

The famous Cuevas de Nerja and the picturesque Frigiliana are only a short distance away. Granada is now just over an hour's drive by car and there are several typical towns and villages within easy reach either in the Alpujarras mountains or closer along the lovely Costa Tropical which is still one of the most beautiful stretches of coast in Europe.

“A great home with a fantastic view”

Reviewed 24 Oct 2012

A comfortable and quiet place with a beautiful view. Efficient and helpful service from C&G. Thank you!

“Everything you need to stay in Nerja”

Reviewed 6 Aug 2012

Apartment 203 in Capistrano Playa was very well fitted out with full cooking facilities and a huge TV which was ideal for the start of the Olympics. Great views of the lake and beach from both balconies. There are 162 steps down to the beach although you get used to it. The shared pool was not too busy and the snack bar was reasonable and very useful for milk, bread, water and beer. There is a small supermarket in the parade of shops which has everything you need, and larger ones nearer town but you would need a car for these. Booking through Ian at C&G was excellent. Very quick responses to email inquiries and easy and safe payment method. Ian also arranged taxi transfers from Malaga airport at €70 each way, with driver handing over keys on arrival. he even carries the heaviest case to the door of the apartment, and pick up service was just as good. We hope to return and thoroughly recommend this apartment.

I am delighted you enjoyed your stay with us & thank you for your kind words, much appreciated. Look forward to seeing you again soon. Ian Gillespie, C&G Holiday Letting Agents, Nerja.

“Brilliant location and views, great apartment”

Reviewed 12 Mar 2012

Stayed in Capistrano Playa in Nerja for a week in Feb 2012. The apartment could not have been better! The sea views from the veranda were spectacular. Living room was comfortable, beds in the two bedrooms were good and we all agreed that this was probably the nicest place we rented in Spain so far. It got cold in night time so the electric heaters were pretty essential. Sky TV and WIFI internet can keep you entertained in case you have a dull day, but I don't think that happens too often round Nerja. The whole apartment complex is build into the cliffs and you do need to go down (and climb back up) quite a lot of stairs when heading to the beach. But even with the stairs it's only a 5 minute walk and the beautiful architecture of the buildings make up for it. It has a real nice andalucian feel to it. As it was winter the pool was closed so I can't comment on that. It didn't matter though as we were happy to hang out at the beach or stroll into town which was probably about a 20 minute walk along the beach. Burriana beach, which you can see from the apartment, is beautiful. One thing to watch out for in the complex if you have very small children/toddlers might be the steps everywhere and some drops with only very small walls without railings, I would be a bit concerned letting toddlers on the loose there. Ian from C & G Inmobiliaria who dealt with the letting of the place was real nice to deal with. From start to finish there was not a single issue and everything went smoothly. When we departed my son lost his mobile phone in the apartment which Ian found later and promptly put in the post for us. Nerja is a great place, especially if you're not into the madness of mass tourism that is the Costa del Sol further to the west. The town still has a real nice spanish feel to it. Of course you find the odd irish pub but it doesn't seem to be in your face all the time. There certainly are a lot of nice spanish places to eat and drink. Try La Dama for cheap and very good pizza and crazy (but funny) waiters. It's not often that I want to go back to a place since there is so much out there to see but I hope I will be back in Nerja soon and certainly wouldn't mind staying in the same apartment again.

'the nicest place we rented in Spain so far' What a compliment!! Many thanks & look forward to seeing you next time. Best Regards Ian

“Fantastic apartment - lovely views!”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2011

After staying here last year we booked again for September of this year as we had such a lovely time. The apartment was great and situated at the front of the complex therefore it was not overlooked and seemed private and it gave us amazing unobstructed views of the sea. It takes about 5 minutes to walk down to the beach front where there are plenty of nice bars and restaurants and about 15 minutes to get to Nerja town which was very pretty with lots of lovely little restaurants. Despite a lot of apartments on the complex we didn't find the pool area busy and there is a little supermarket on site which was really helpful. Definately recommanded.

“It was one of my best holidays!”
