A peaceful place for deep quiet contemplation located on a natural, dramatic, stark lava landscape. Placed at a 4000 ft elevation and on a 80 years old lava flow, the cottage simple set up presents a panoramic vista of the southernmost point of the Hawaiian islands and the USA.
The Space:
The quietness, peacefulness, and marvelous ocean view makes this cottage absolutely unique. It is perfect for those with a taste for introspection, contemplation and self inquiry. Without any noise, distractions, and little if any human interaction, you can indeed unwind, relax, breathe deeply, contemplate and take in the serenity and peace of the openness and expansiveness of the sky and space that this spot somehow makes it so available. The Mauna Loa life and power is undeniable as one looks around from the Zen.
Guest Access:
Guests will enjoy their own private cottage with a simple kitchen plus a 12 x 28 foot lanai. Access to refrigerator is separate from the cottage. Shared bathhouse with hot water running shower and free hand maintnance composting toilet are provided. Totally off the grid, modest solar power is available. Water comes from rain water catchment. This space is ideal for those with an organic, self-sufficient, green lifestyle and those wishing to experience all the different landscapes and micro-climates and ways of living this island has to offer. How is it possible to live a comfortable decent lifestyle off-the-grid without demanding so many resources from the planet? We must start somewhere and choose simplicity if any changes we really want to make. All roads are paved, and free parking is at the front door. Cell phone reception is excellent.
Interaction with Guests:
There are no neighbors nearby except the owner.
The Neighborhood:
As you come into this neighborhood, you will find grocery stores, gas stations, a post-office, simple restaurants, pizza, a hardware store and public transportation. Saturdays present an interesting and unique flea market. The cottage is located three blocks from the Volcano National Park boundary and six miles the highway. The famous Kula Kai caves are approximately ten miles from the cottage. Close by are also an open cinder pit mine and several Protea farms, There are no neighbors nearby except the owner. Southpoint is right in front of your eyes from the cottage, and approximately 20 miles away.
Getting around:
Public transportation is limited. A rental car is recommended. Very easy access with all roads paved.
Other Things to Note:
The space offer a single bed size although it can accommodate a couple of people comfortably.
