A warm welcome and freshly laid eggs await you at The Hen House! A character conversion of a farm outbuilding, the Hen House is now a cosy little cottage located in the picturesque South Lakeland village of Old Hutton. With great outdoor space and ample off road parking, the cottage is perfectly placed for exploring both the Lake District National Park and the Yorkshire Dales. Old Hutton is situated midway between the lovely old market towns of Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale.

The cottage is surrounded by open countryside and farm land, with views from every vista and great walks on your doorstep. There are grazing sheep in the nearby fields and hens in the adjoining paddock who will kindly provide fresh eggs for you. You are welcome to use the paddock during your stay for exercising your dog, your children, or just yourself!

The owners will provide as much local knowledge & advice as you need, and there is an information pack supplied containing maps, leaflets, walking books and a huge array of tourist information.

The local pub is 2 miles up the road and is family and dog friendly. There's a great outdoor play area, beer garden and you can say hello to their Alpacas! If you fancy doing something a little different, there is an activity centre just a mile up the road from the cottage where you can have a go at clay-pigeon shooting, horse-riding, quad-bike riding, archery and even tank driving! Paint-balling and off-road driving are also available.

A lovely week tucked away in the Hen House cottage, the place was warm, peaceful and very pet friendly. The paddock was a lovely area to exercise our dog before bedtime.

Truly a year of firsts having recently lost my wife, we have run this holiday cottage for over 15 years and never had anything like this before. The weekend was a release from lockdown and I had friends and family over to catch up, I dare say noise levels were an issue but I can’t understand the need to fabricate such a story as it’s simply not correct I offered an apology and would have more than refunded them but was not given the chance Those of you who have stayed with us previously know the standards

Why can't I call Jade (the owner) before booking?

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Jade (the owner) a message.

If Jade (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
