Description

PLEASE NOTE WE ARE NOT TAKING BOOKINGS FOR 2019 (due to refurbishments happening spring 2019 and due for completion in late March)

For those interested in the remainder of 2018 read on:

This is a truly lovely house, very Spanish and full of charm and character. We have refurbished it with style and filled it with lovely furniture, some modern and some antique, with Moroccan and Spanish influences.

The house sits in half an acre of cyprus, olive and almond trees stretching across three terraces. On the lower terrace, partly secluded by trees and shrubs, is the 9m (30ft) swimming pool with spacious stone terrace, perfect for sunbathing or relaxing in the shade. There are sun loungers and umbrellas but for most of the day there is shade in one perfect spot, under the old olive tree.

We have created beautiful gardens which lead to the house and down to the pool, from the formal entrance garden to the stone path with pretty fountain, you will be surrounded by flowers and shrubs. The trees are mature and give much needed shade, but the oleanders, lilies and lantana lift everything with brilliant colours.

The living room features a double-height ceiling making a room full of light and space - with a large sofa, chaise longue and enough chairs for everyone to relax in comfort. Next to this is the raised dining area which is more formal and has space for ten. From here into the large family kitchen and then out onto the main south facing patio where there's a sofa and chairs, with a large spanish style dining table, perfect for al fresco evenings and large enough for an extended family or a group of up to ten.

The large bright entrance hall is also a sun lounge, it overlooks the pool and faces south to the fantastic Contra Viesa mountains. From the living room, looking north through the french windows, is the Sierra Nevada. It's 360 degree special!

Further details indoors

A beautiful old, country house with lots of room to move. With 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, it sleeps 10 plus baby comfortably. The focal point is the large, double-height living space with galleria around two sides leading to bedroom 1. The dining area is spacious with dining for 10, it is situated on a raised level in the large living space and leads to the kitchen. Typical of an old Spanish country house it is on many levels but this makes the house interesting and special. From the dining area you enter the kitchen which leads onto a south facing patio with sofa, coffee table and large dining table, perfect for al fresco drinks and dining for 10. From this terrace there are spectacular views of the coastal mountains and the sweep of the valley. It is just fantastic at sunset.

The large kitchen has a 5-ring hob, overhead extractor, electric oven, microwave, ample work surfaces, dishwasher, washing machine, iron/ironing board and walk-in pantry with fridge-freezer. Also a large table/chairs for indoor breakfast. There are five bedrooms, three of which are ensuite. Bedroom 2 is L-shaped with a queen size bed and, around the corner, another bed for a child and (if needed) a cot for baby. It also has french windows overlooking a further patio which leads to the pool. The house bathroom is off the entrance hall/sun lounge and is fitted with a walk in shower. It is next to bedroom 4 which is a double room. Bedroom 5 is off the dining area and has 2 twin beds.

The owners live in the adjacent building and are on hand for support and advice. However your privacy, and a quiet holiday, are guaranteed.

Further details outdoors

There are several garden areas, including the landscaped front entrance garden and private lower terrace where the 30 foot pool is located. The trees create privacy and much needed shade although the pool is in full sun all day. The gardens and pool terrace are linked by stone pathways and sheltered by over 25 trees: almond, olive jacaranda and a giant eucalyptus which we have grown from seed. The pool area is especially attractive, paved in light stone and surrounded by trees and bamboo. There are loungers, chairs and umbrellas for shade. Overlooking the pool is another terrace next to the entrance and sun lounge, here you can relax in the shade under a beautiful almond tree with just the birds for company. At the front of the house, leading off the kitchen, is the main patio for eating and relaxing in the shade. It is partially covered and furnished with comfy sofa and chairs and a large spanish style dining table, perfect for al fresco evenings facing the sunset. The BBQ is on this patio, so you can barby while taking in the stunning view of the mountains.

“Captivating Cortijo Caliz”

Reviewed 7 Aug 2016

Just back from a wonderful week in the hills near Orgiva...stunning villa, with everything we needed and the support of Tina who owns this little slice of paradise...Travelled up after week in Nerja with our teens who had a chilled time after their exams...perfect pool, bbq, kitchen, beautiful bedrooms and stunning vistas of the mountains...Great area to sit outside/dine shaded which was needed in the hot sun...Recommend biking in the hills, Granada, Thursday Orgiva market, Le Molino bar for drinks and food and taking winding roads up to wonderful high mountain white villages ...a future starting point for a walking holiday in a cooler month...it was a very enjoyable holiday.
