Pego do Linho is a seven hectare, completely secluded, off-grid estate in the stunning Alentejo countryside. Surrounded on three sides by a river, this nature lover & birdwatcher's paradise is the ideal place to relax and explore. The guest house is totally private, with its own entrance, sunny verandah & panoramic views. Conveniently located on the road between Lisbon (1:40 mins) and the Algarve (45 mins) and close to Ourique (10 mins) with its supermarket & many cafes and restaurants.
The land consists of natural areas surrounded by a river where you can swim, walk, picnic or just sit quietly. All the seasons are different - in spring time enjoy the meadows and river banks full of amazing wildflowers, in summer, the hot days and in winter the bright blue skies and crisp mornings. Olive groves, a fruit orchard and fields full of aromatic plants provide a haven for many bird species. You can sit and read under the shade of the large holm oaks or walk around and enjoy the incredible scenery. At night time the sky fills with brilliant stars and you are free to borrow our telescope to view them more closely. In the river you will see fish, freshwater turtles and evidence of otters.
The open-plan guest house has complete privacy with its own entrance and verandah, a well equipped kitchen with a washing machine and a bathroom with both shower and bath. The large living area is kept warm in the winter by a wood-burning pellet stove and in the summer, the gentle breezes keep the interior cool. From the verandah you have panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. You are welcome to explore all of seven hectares as well as all along the river bank. Our house is close by and we are happy to help you with whatever you need. Or you can be by yourselves, the choice is entirely yours. We are very happy to share our organically grown fruit and vegetable with you as well as eggs from our free range chickens.
We are at the end of a 2.5km dirt track only a few minutes from the IC1 which runs between Faro and Lisbon, so although it is very accessible, it is also very remote! During your stay you can simply relax or you can explore the area around us, there are many beautiful walks as well as some historical ruins and places of archeological interest. Perhaps take a trip to the west coast beaches, have a swim in the dams of Monte de Rocha or Santa Clara or visit some of the picturesque and historical towns in the area. Only 15 minutes away is the famous Special Protection Area of Castro Verde where numerous species of birds can be found. The nearby town of Ourique has all the amenities you need such as supermarket, banks, a cinema and restaurants. At the end of our road you can find three very restaurants serving typical Alentejano dishes. Castro Verde is 15 minutes drive away where there is a regular market and other cultural activities.
Please note that we have five medium sized friendly dogs who are free on the property.
Please also note that our water is supplied by borehole and our electricity by solar. It is very important that we use these resources carefully. Please understand that sometimes, on dull days, we cannot use appliances such as washing machines and that sometimes we may have to switch on the generator (which is noisy).
We have a rooster who may wake you up in the most countryside way!
