Getting around

The historic houses of Haddon and Chatsworth & the market town of Bakewell can be visited on foot, by bike or by car. One of the pleasures of Daleside is that many walks can be made straight from the house.

Interaction with guest

I like guests to feel the house is their own from the moment they arrive. If additional advice on places to visit, walks, history or details about the house are requested I can be easily contacted throughout the stay.

“Best cottage break by far!!”

Reviewed 9 Aug 2019

If I had to use one word to describe Daleside cottage, it would be ‘ Idyllic’. If you like breathtaking scenery, excellent scenic walks, coupled with relaxing in a beautiful setting, then this is the place for you! This was our second visit this year, we booked this break while we were still in Daleside the first time in February. We didn’t bring our dog the first time but really wished we had because on this trip, he had the time of his life! You really couldn’t ask for anymore with this cottage, Christine has thought of everything to help you have the most convenient stay. We noticed in someone else’s review that they had mentioned that a pint of milk on arrival would have been nice as there are not any local shops. It is important to mention that Christine has acted on this comment straight away because there was a pint of milk waiting in the fridge, next to the bottle of Prosecco that she always leaves which is more meaningful to me than a bottle of milk. Anyone who has done their research would have known that there is no local shop and would plan accordingly. Surely, if you are driving to Daleside, you would need to put petrol in your car and could pick up milk at the garage ( it’s not difficult) We want to say a huge thank you to Christine because she has a little slice of heaven that she is sharing with us all! Without doubt, we will be returning. If you want to get away from your usual busy lifestyle and chill then this is the place to go!

“Comfortable cottage in quiet location with lovely views”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2019

We enjoyed our stay in this characterful cottage and found it perfectly comfortable. I liked having the large kitchen diner with the doors that opened out to the pretty garden and also presented great views over the countryside. The whole cottage felt quite spacious, and it was handy having a separate toilet room downstairs. I noted someone else mentioned that a pint of milk on arrival would be nice, and I agree - there aren’t any local shops to pop to for supplies so it would be handy. We did enjoy the biscuits and wine though, and understand any freebies at all are a bonus! The village was extremely quiet but we did go to the pub a few times, just for drinks. We also walked down to the river for a picnic, which is a popular local spot.

“Lovely cottage in splendid location”

Reviewed 11 Jun 2019

The cottage sits on the edge of the small village of Over Haddon with beautiful terraced garden overlooking Lathkill Dale. It's a peaceful spot to recharge batteries and the cottage itself is very comfortable. It's well equipped and Christine, the owner, thoughtfully provides little extras - Prosecco chilling in the fridge makes for a welcoming arrival! On foot you can explore locally with the town of Bakewell only a couple of miles away. Walk across the fields to visit the magical Haddon Hall or drive that bit further to Chatsworth, Hardwick Hall or the plague village of Eyam. An excellent base for an active break but such a relaxing spot too.
