Getting around

The historic houses of Haddon and Chatsworth & the market town of Bakewell can be visited on foot, by bike or by car. One of the pleasures of Daleside is that many walks can be made straight from the house.

Interaction with guest

I like guests to feel the house is their own from the moment they arrive. If additional advice on places to visit, walks, history or details about the house are requested I can be easily contacted throughout the stay.

“Lovely cottage in splendid location”

Reviewed 11 Jun 2019

The cottage sits on the edge of the small village of Over Haddon with beautiful terraced garden overlooking Lathkill Dale. It's a peaceful spot to recharge batteries and the cottage itself is very comfortable. It's well equipped and Christine, the owner, thoughtfully provides little extras - Prosecco chilling in the fridge makes for a welcoming arrival! On foot you can explore locally with the town of Bakewell only a couple of miles away. Walk across the fields to visit the magical Haddon Hall or drive that bit further to Chatsworth, Hardwick Hall or the plague village of Eyam. An excellent base for an active break but such a relaxing spot too.

“Perfect bolthole”

The cottage came well recommended and deservedly so. We were blessed with beautiful weather so were able to sit out and admire the stunning views. Everything we needed was provided and made easy so we just got on with our holiday. Communication with the owner was excellent but not intrusive. The Lathkil Hotel provided good service, beer and food on a couple of evenings.

“A must go to cottage if you want views, comfort and great communication with the owner”

Over Haddon is such an idyllic location. Daleside cottage is perfectly placed. My wife and I were so impressed by every aspect of our stay. The cottage is beautiful and is equipped with everything you could possibly need. The little touches that Christine leaves are also very special (a bottle of prosecco in the fridge and doggy biscuits if you take your dog) There is a selection of DVD's & books to read and the log burner was a cosy treat. The patio has a beautiful view and is private and peaceful. The walks around Over Haddon are also lovely and Bakewell is a short drive away or you can walk there. All in all, we could not fault our break away at Daleside cottage. Hence why we have booked to go back in August. If you want a cottage break with spectacular views, then this is the place to go!

“Wonderful stay”

Reviewed 6 Jan 2019

My partner and I stayed in Christine’s cottage for a long weekend, to celebrate the New Year’s Eve. What a wonderful time we had! The location is great for walking in the Peak District National Park, and close to nice pubs and restaurants. Bakewell is just 10 minutes by car, and it’s a lovely little town where one can find The famous Bakewell tart and pudding. Chatsworth House is another stunning place that’s worth a visit. The cottage itself is amazing. It has all the amenities plus one needs, plus we had a thoughtful welcoming gift: a bottle of Champagne! The cottage was very clean, elegantly furnished and spacious, with a comfortable living room with fireplace, perfect on an exceptionally cold winters nights. The location is also very quiet, great for escaping from the city chaos. We really enjoyed our time here and would love to come back. You cannot go wrong!

“Peaceful well appointed place to stay with great views.”

Lovely cottage with lots of homely touches. Great to have a log burner. Over Haddon is a great place to stay with walks on the doorstep down beautiful Lathkil Dale.

“Beautiful retreat with amazing views!”

I have just returned from a weekend in Christine’s beautiful cottage - Daleside. It truly didn’t disappoint, equipped with everything you needed for your stay, with views that simply blew you away. You could walk in all directions to many recommended places and it was close to all major towns including Bakewell, Buxton, Chatsworth and Castleton (one of our favorite) these were close to drive but using maps within the cottage you could walk to these following pathways with spectacular scenery! The log burner was an excellent touch and a perfect end to a day of walking. You could even cuddle up to a selection of dvds that Christine had provided in the cottage. We had the most wonderful time, and didn’t want to leave! This cottage is a perfect romantic getaway with some of the best views which you can enjoy in both winter and summer! We cannot wait to return! Thank you Christine for letting us stay in your wonderful cottage! Louise Edwards

“Perfect location and views”

Reviewed 17 Nov 2018

This cottage was the best placed within the village to experience the most fantastic views over the valley. The moment we walked into the warm, inviting and tastefully decorated cottage we felt at home. The kitchen was quaint and fully equipped for any eventuality. The owner also provides a very comprehensive list of recommended eateries, which was helpful. The cottage was advertised as one bedroom yet had two very well appointed double bedrooms which would mean four could be accommodated very easily . The location of the cottage was perfect for walks and short drives to Chatsworth House, Hardwick Hall, Haddon Hall and other places of interest. Another reviewer mentioned they arrived, parked the car and did not move it until their return. This would be very easy to do. Although as we are just 'casual strollers' I would encourage others to get out and explore the lovely chocolate box villages close by, by car. All in all we enjoyed our stay at this very well thought out cottage and look forward to a return visit in the future. Many thanks.

“Break from the normal”

We chose the cottage to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The cottage is ideally placed in a small village with a local pub which serves great food. This was a godsend as we got snowed in on our last day. The cottage itself is fantastic, we were snug as a bug as the snow fell. The position of Over Haddon is great if you have some walking boots, as there are many walks in the area. The local town of Bakewell has everything you need from shops, pubs and restaurants. If you want to try a Bakewell pudding or Bakewell tart, where else would you buy them ? We had a great weekend, even with the snow falling, I would recomend the Cottage to anyone wanting to get away from it all.

“Perfect retreat”

Second visit as could not better it!! Views are stunning, no need to move from veranda but with so many stunning walks on the doorstep, you would be silly not to explore. The cottage is perfect, especially the log burner for the evenings after returning from the local pub We will return next year and stay longer!!!

Quaint cottage tastefully refurbished to create a warm, cosy atmosphere set in a quiet village with fantastic views of the Lathkill Dale. We walked through the dale to Alport which was very pretty. We have never visited the area before and really loved the variety of fantastic walks. So much to see and do that we are rebooking for October. We highly recommend this cottage and the location.
