Secluded natural areas nearby are perfectly situated for exploring the outstanding natural beauty of the island. Very close to the villa is the beautiful old village of Panormos (5 minutes drive away from the villa Katerina). In the ancient days of steam travel it was an important harbour and a flourishing small town. Today, Panormos is a protected area due to its beautiful and traditional narrow streets and buildings. A fine sandy beach, several good restaurants, a wonderful sea view are just some of the pleasures a visitor can experience in this picturesque little resort. It is also an excellent geographical point to use as a base for excursions all over Crete.
The nearby village is only 2km away and has super market, restaurant, café, bakery. The small city of Perama, which remains open all year round, is just 4 minutes drive away and has supermarkets, various shops, restaurants and bars, bakeries, petrol stations, Town Hall, banks, post office, a vet, a 24hr Health Centre and pharmacists.
In a short distance (5 km) of Katerina Villa you will find the traditional village of Melidoni and discover the historical cave of the village.
Driving to South, you will find the famous for the traditional hand made potteries village of Margarites, the village of Eleftherna, famous for the arheological finds, and the historical monastery of Arcadi.
Very easily you can meet the foot of Psiloritis mountain and at the distance of approx. 20 km, and find some very old and tradional villages like the village of Axos, the village of Zoniana with the wonderful, full of stalactits and stalagmits cave, and close by the Anogia village, world wide famous for the cretan music and the musicians.
The historic city of Rethymnon is about 20 minutes away by car from the villa where you will meet the venetian castle of Fortezza, the old venetian city, and the longest in whole meditereanean beach.
The large tarace of the villa and the garden with the olive trees offer various seating locations. You can walk to the valley with the local trees, the olive trees, see and smell the famous cretan herbs and flowers, having the chance to meet and feel the cretan land.
The external views of the house are magnificent, offering a choice of the mountains, the valley with the olive groves and the agricultural landscape.
