Description

The Firs is a well-appointed, comfortable family house in an excellent location to explore Cornwall. Recently renovated to a high standard, the owners have made the most of this handsome granite building. Through sympathetic restoration and complete updating they have created a practical and pleasurable holiday home with a combination of original features and contemporary comforts. The original sash windows and shutters have been restored, the tasteful decor and carpets are new throughout, and there is gas central heating.

The heart of the house is the kitchen-diner which has a large table, TV and small wood-burner. The kitchen area is well equipped with a Belling double-oven range cooker, microwave and fridge-freezer, and behind the kitchen is a newly constructed conservatory with seating. The heart of the house is the kitchen-diner which has a large table, TV and small wood-burner. The kitchen area is well equipped with a Belling double-oven range cooker, microwave and fridge-freezer, and behind the kitchen is a newly constructed conservatory with seating. On the other side of the hallway is the lounge, a cosy room with a comfortable leather sofa and chairs, and a wood-burning stove. The lounge is open to a study area which leads to a newly-fitted and very practical utility room, as well as a cloakroom with a large walk-in shower. The utility room has doors to the outside and the conservatory, and contains a sink, washing machine and tumble dryer.

Up the original Georgian staircase are four bedrooms and the family bathroom. At the front of the house is the master bedroom with a king-size bed and brass bedstead, another king-size double, and a single bedroom. The final bedroom overlooks the rear garden and has twin beds. The family bathroom is a good size and is well-planned and tastefully decorated. There is an antique-style roll-top bath with shower mixer tap as well as a large walk-in shower, towel rail radiator and modern illuminated mirror.

The property is set back from the road by a lawn at the front and also has a rear garden which is accessible round the side of the house. The rear garden is split-level with steps to the top area which overlooks a field and is pleasantly private. Here you will find a table and chairs, and the barbecue.

The Firs is a dog-friendly property and has a good-sized kennel facility if anyone wishes to use it.

The England region

This region of Cornwall has a huge variety to offer everyone. Within easy reach you can experience the north coast with its stunning cliffs and miles of sandy beaches as well as the south coast's pretty inlets and harbours. Inland there's gorgeous countryside, beautiful gardens and stately homes, some fascinating history and great kids' attractions. This part of Cornwall is known for its excellent local food and has a selection of superb restaurants.

Perranwell Station

The Firs is in the village of Perranarworthal, a short distance from the main Truro to Falmouth road, near to the famous Norway Inn. Less than a mile away, Perranwell Station also has a thriving dining pub, the Royal Oak, which does superb food and real ales, and there is also a village shop and post office.

Mylor Harbour is only 15 mins away and there are other small tidal slipways such as Point which is only 10 minutes away. The house is perfectly positioned for you to explore the area by car or public transport. Only 10 minutes' drive from the house you will find:

- Falmouth, a bustling and varied town with a wide choice of shops and restaurants. It is built around the port on the huge natural harbour of Carrick Roads and ferries run to nearby Flushing as well as St Mawes. At the southern end is Pendennis Castle and Gyllyngvase Beach.

- Truro, the cathedral city which has good shopping and restaurants, and sometimes an excellent local food market.

- King Harry Ferry, which takes you to the beautiful Roseland Peninsula where, as well as the popular St Mawes, you'll find the picturesque fishing villages of Portscatho and Portloe.

- Trelissick House and Gardens, a National Trust Property with a fabulous 4-mile walk round the dog-friendly estate.

- Loe Beach, a watersports centre with sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, boat hire, etc.

- The Pandora Inn, famous waterside pub which does great food.

Other approximate travelling times from the cottage are as follows:
20 min - Carn Brea, Flambards Theme Park, Poldark Mine
30 min - St Agnes, Perranporth, Porthleven, Goonhilly, Trebah Garden, Glendurgan Garden, Trerice

“Beautiful and very well equipped cottage in quiet location”

Reviewed 6 Jul 2016

Brilliant from start to finish, contact with the property manager Fiona was prompt and contained all the necessary details. The welcome pack which was waiting for us (Bread, Milk, wine) was also a nice touch, thank you. The cottage itself was fantastic and very spacious with a very well kitted out Kitchen. All the rooms were nicely decorated and tidy and having the two bathrooms was very useful as there were 7 adults sharing. The cottage is nicely situated between Truro and Falmouth 1/4 mile away from the main road, so public transport is available, but a car is advisable. There is also a nice pub within easy walking distance if you wanted to get a good meal out locally. The wifi connection was good throughout the house, which was a bonus, as the mobile reception isn't great in the area, so we were still able to Whatsapp the other group who were staying locally. All in all we had a great time at The Firs and would highly recommend it
