TERRITORY This ancient village of medieval origin, stands on a steep rock outcrop at 415 m s.l.m, on the southern foothills of the monti Sabini. The communal territory is hilly, typical of the hills of Sabina, and is characterized by a corrugated pattern and rich in vegetation. The characteristic hilly terrain favors morphology, mainly the cultivation of vines, olive trees and wheat in larger plots. The natural landscape is therefore dominated by the presence of typical crops in the area and the colors range from bright green vines and olive groves, the golden yellow alternating grain stain characteristics of colli sabini.
The Farfa River runs through the municipal area.
HISTORY Poggio Nativo (formerly Podium Dawal, Puggìnàddio sabino dialect [2]), is a town of 2,352 inhabitants in the province of Rieti. In most medieval documents available, the name "Podium de Dawal" probably derives from the name of what is identified as the founder of the country, a local landowner named Diana (or Donadio). Unfortunately, there is no actual documentation that can make it possible to identify unequivocally the alleged Donadeo among various local power brokers who lived around the end of the first Millennium. Most accepted version on its origin of the name is, however, linked to perch atop a hill that the country enjoys. This position, in fact, hardly made him accessible and, in medieval times, this was a big plus for the defense of the country, as it offered a safe haven to the population during the barbarian invasions of the period and was therefore named ' podium donum Dei ', a gift from God.
Whatever its origin, however, the old name "Podium de Dawal" or just "Podium Dawal", over the years, through linguistic corruptions of Latin and the vernacular, evolution would have evolved into "Podium Dawaki, then the podium Donadeo, move to Poggio Donadio, Poggio, Poggio Mario Natio and finally to Poggio Nativo, as we know it today.
