From the owner

Kernyk is a detached cottage in St Levan, near Porthcurno, Cornwall, England which can sleep up to 5 people. It's in a very quiet location, just over 1 mile from Porthcurno Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Britain, and the famous Minack Theatre overlooking the cliffs and the sea. It is 3 miles from Lands End, 8 miles from Penzance and 17 miles from St Ives. It is convenient for the South West Coast Path National Trail with stunning coastal walks and views.

Our guests find, when they arrive, a newly cleaned cottage with a welcome pack which includes some tea, coffee, milk and basic domestic consumables. The bed upstairs is made up and bed linen is provided for the sofa bed and chair bed in the living room (if needed).

The cottage was originally a barn which we converted when we bought it in 1998. We live in East Sussex, quite a distance away but we have a very good locally-based management company who look after the cottage and our guests.

Amazing!
Mar 2020

My partner and I stayed there for a week and it was absolutely amazing! We felt so much at home that it was a little bit difficult to say goodbye. The location is also perfect.

Response from the owner
I’m very sorry that this guest was unhappy with the state of the cottage. We take all feedback seriously and especially any complaints. I've discussed these matters with the housekeepers and we have concluded that some, but not all, of them are justified: - A couple of dishes were indeed not adequately cleaned by a previous guest and this was unfortunately missed by the housekeeper. - The housekeeper also did not notice that the kindling for the fire had been used up and needed to be replaced. However the radiators had been turned on in advance of the guest's arrival and the cottage was warm even without the woodstove. - Bed linen and duvets were provided for all the beds. The main bed in the upstairs bedroom was made up and the sheets and duvet for the sofabed were in the drawers and cupboard in the cottage. This guest is the only one we have had in five years who was unable to find them. - Cornwall in winter is a damp place, and late 2018 was relatively warm and lichens and mosses grow very quickly in such conditions on external walls and woodwork even when regularly cleaned. There is no damp or fungus or anything like that inside the cottage. The window surrounds are not rotten. - The soft furnishings had been professionally cleaned in October (i.e. 2 months before this guest's stay) and I had them checked after this complaint - they are neither damp nor musty. - There is a small stain on the bedroom ceiling. It appears to have been caused either by condensation or by a guest splashing something. It will be painted over as part of the annual spring clean/tidy early in 2019. We try to provide excellence and we mostly succeed as evidenced by the feedback from all our other guests. On the rare occasions when something has not been right, guests have contacted us and we were able to sort things out quickly. All guests are given contact phone numbers for myself and for the local property management company who look after the cottage and do the housekeeping. The management company provides a 24 hour, 7 days per week call out service and these concerns would have been addressed within a couple of hours at most had we known about them. We are mystified and disappointed that the guest decided to keep his concerns to himself until after his stay rather than have them addressed while he was there.
