Our guests just love The Mount - saying it is a 'home-from-home'. We hope to ensure that you have the best holiday here - one made of good memories of relaxing by the open fire, aga-cooked dinners with friends and family in our beautiful dining room, coffees in the garden, sleeping well in the Egyptian cotton sheets, waking up to the beautiful views of the lake and mountains, good walks - in short, a relaxing and special time away from the hustle and bustle of usual life. We are very proud to be a part of both the Sawdays collection and the Yellow Duck Collection.

The Mount is set in a very special place - one of the loveliest villages in the lakes. Portinscale village has it all - it is peaceful, right on the lake-shore, has wonderful cafes, an ideal place to start many great walks including Catbells, and two marines for canoeing, kayaking and sailing - and yet is a short walk to Keswick - full of pubs, restaurants and shops!

Many of our guests say what a special time they have - finding the art and books in the rooms inspiring, enjoying boardgames by the fire, celebratory dinners in the dining room, cooking on the aga, using the maps for challenging or relaxing walks, having a holiday they will always remember.

Interaction with guest

When possible we will meet you at the property and give you the keys etc. We can answer any questions - and tell you about the aga, give you tips on things to do, etc. When this is not possible, we have a keysafe and will give you the code. We love our home and love sharing it with guests. In the school holidays we rent out our whole home (and leave in a little cottage behind The Mount or going camping!), for the rest of the year we do B&B. Why can't I call Caroline (the owner) before booking?

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I pay the balance of my holiday?

How can I retract my booking request?

You’ll need to contact Caroline (the owner) to do this. Send them a message in Manage your holiday booking or through the contact form on this page.

How do I cancel my booking?

Go to Manage your holiday booking to cancel your booking. Here you can view your cancellation policy to see if you’ll be refunded.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Caroline (the owner) a message.

If Caroline (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
