Descanso La Pizota is a remote hostel located in a forested area bordering Corcavado National Park. Through our breath-taking trails we offer you the chance to submerse yourself in nature experiencing a tranquil, beautiful slice of reality.
THE AREA
The Osa Peninsula holds holds 2.5% of the worlds bio-diversity and is home to Corcavado National Park, the most pristine expanse of lowland forest in Costa Rica. The exhilarating wildlife of the area includes jaguars, scarlet macaws and Bairs's tapirs.. On the Osa, the wildlife is known to make use of it's wider landscape, Dos Brazos is no exception to this, the primary and secondary forest areas surounding the national park such as our forest farm, Descanso La Pizota hold wonderful opportunities for visitors to submerse themselves in depths of nature.
DESCANSO LA PIZOTA - THE RAINFOREST HOSTEL
Upon arrival at Descanso La Pizota you will be welcomed by a challenging yet stimulating hike, you'll break a sweat, but worry not, the beautiful waterfall on the way up is the perfect place to cool yourself down. This is the first of the treks we offer you; the hostel provides its guests with 30 kilometers of trails which you can saunter a leisurely, keeping an eye out for the wildlife and bird-watching or hike for a quicker pace if your fitness is your priority. One of our hikes will lead you to a a look-out which, at 800 feet, will give you a breath-taking a view of the entire Osa Pensinula.
Our hostel is self-sustainable, we produce organic fruit, vegetables and have gathered the wood from fallen trees in the forest to create our dorm beds. As well as this, Xinia has an extensive knowledge of medicinal plants, which grow in abundance in the area. We will be happy to give you a hand in conjuring up your own teas, or soaks.
Finally we provide you with a guided tour of the goldmine. This is a rare opportunity which will offer first-hand insight into the lives of the local people of Dos Brazos and it's tumultuous history.
THINGS TO DO
Since gold-mining was outlawed in Dos Brazos, many of the inhabitants of the town found themsleves out of work. Since then various projects have been set up to allow locals to work with eco-friendly, nature loving visitors. Some of the tours which we offer you to enjoy with the local community are:
